In a fierce presidential race that has often highlighted social conservative issues, Barack Obama has decided to once again champion abortion rights and his liberty-crushing HHS Mandate in a television advertisement attempting to portray Mitt Romney as out of touch with the needs of American women. Two lines in this ad really stood out to me: One woman states that “This is not the 1950s,” and another posits that she can’t “remember anyone as extreme as Romney.”

The first statement is a fascinating one, as its seeming intention is to beckon back to a time when things were worse: the 1950s. In many ways, that is correct. There is always a danger among social conservatives of hearkening back to an America of the peaceful, suburban white picket-fence lifestyle, which probably never existed as it is perceived in Norman Rockwell-esque popular imagination. However, it is imperative not to forget that the 1950s were a time of devastating racial inequality. African Americans were being blocked from voting, often violently so, denied access to the same restaurants, pools, and even drinking fountains that their white counterparts enjoyed, and in some places in the South, even lynched for perceived offenses against white “authority.” This situation was undeniably and blatantly wicked, and the radicals of the day—from titans of oratory such as Martin Luther King Jr. to dogged everyday heroes such as James Zwerg—now hold a deservedly exalted position in the annals of American history.

Many conservatives are apt to think of the “legacy of the ‘60s” and preceding ‘50s as one of unbridled hedonism, and one that brought us the infamous 1973 Roe v. Wade decision (and its follow-up case Doe v. Bolton), which declared open war on pre-born Americans. However, it is important to remember that the legacy of this time period has a face both cherubic and evil: An unprecedented move towards justice and equality for African Americans, and an unprecedented move towards injustice for the pre-born Americans blissfully unaware in their mothers’ wombs. As the sanitation crews washed the blood of Civil Rights marchers from the streets, the trash collectors began to heave garbage bags full of dismembered American children onto their trucks. The Grim Reaper began to focus on less visible victims.

And it is these victims that the bloodthirsty practitioners of Planned Parenthood have been exterminating with unbridled enthusiasm ever since. And it is this organization that Barack Obama, an African American himself, has decided to cast his lot with, for better or for worse. It is a supreme irony, as the founder of Planned Parenthood, the noted racist and eugenicist Margaret Sanger, wrote at length about the “extermination” of who she considered “inferior” people, and had as one of her most trusted colleagues a man named Lothrop Stoddard, author of white supremacist trash science containing statements such as, “Just as we isolate bacterial invasions, and starve out the bacteria, by limiting the area and amount of their food supply, so we can compel an inferior race to remain in its native habitat.”

Segregation and “white supremacy” was once the scourge of the African American community. Now, however, it is organizations such as Planned Parenthood. Over thirteen million pre-born African Americans have been shredded by abortionists since 1973 (one of them recently commenting on “those ugly black babies” he aborts.) An average of 1,876 African American babies are aborted every single day in the United States. The African American community would be 36% larger than it is now if not for abortion. And Planned Parenthood is quite happy to be doing their grisly work: the pro-life investigative group Live Action even caught them willingly accepting donations given under the specific provision that they be used to target African American pre-born children.

This leads us to the second statement made in Barack Obama’s laughably deceitful advertisement: the accusation that Romney is somehow “extreme.” Besides pointing out that Barack Obama even refused to support the Born Alive Infants’ Act, a bill that would protect children who survived an abortion (even NARAL went neutral on this legislation), it is obvious to anyone willing to consider the facts that in reality, Planned Parenthood is the extreme organization, and by extension, the most pro-abortion president in American history who supports it wholeheartedly is extreme. As the pro-life movement points out over and over again to a mainstream media with their fingers planted firmly in their ears, Planned Parenthood has been caught covering up sex slavery, statuatory rape, and illegal prostitution. If that’s not extreme, what is?

The battle for civil rights for all Americans, regardless of race or age, continues. It’s a crying shame that Barack Obama is fighting us tooth and nail.
