The Question of the Year has been answered: Yes, “The Bachelor” stars Sean Lowe & Catherine Giudici were sexually abstinent until marriage.

The couple, who met on the show's 17th season – Giudici was the winner, while Lowe was the show's bachelor – were given a lie detector test by comedian Jimmy Kimmel shortly before their nuptials on January 26. They had claimed abstinence until their wedding day, which Kimmel doubted.

According to PEOPLE Magazine, the results were definitive:

Kimmel revealed the results on his show Monday night, and – to the host's surprise as much as anybody's – [polygraph expert Dennis] Blackstock stated that he had definitive results from the test, and that those results confirmed Lowe and Giudici's claims: The pair didn't sleep together until they were married, waiting 16 months.

While both Lowe and Giudici have acknowledged not being abstinent in their respective pasts, Lowe is strongly religious, and appears to have made it clear on “The Bachelor” that sex was going to wait until marriage. He did not oppose what the Daily Beast's Ramin Setoodeh called “heavy kissing” on the show, however.

In a culture that promotes sexual promiscuity, it is obviously to the credit of Lowe and Giudici that they waited until they were married before having sex with each other, though one could criticize “heavy kissing” and the public purchase of lingerie by Lowe for his fiancee.

However, I think their efforts deserve double-credit because they took a show Setoodeh noted is designed around the idea of promiscuous sex and made their relationship about more than using each other for sexual gratification.

We could use a lot more of this type of PDA in America.
