Turning up the heat

Alissa Golob

Ever had a yearning to boil a frog? Me neither. If I DID want to (hypothetically speaking OF COURSE), 19th-century science suggests that the best way to do it is to put the frog in cold water and slowly turn up the heat. If poor little Kermit was placed in boiling water, he would jump out, but if he’s placed in cold water that was slowly heated, Kermy would not perceive the danger and be cooked to death. Terrible to think about, I know, especially on the heels of the new Muppets movie.

The point is, abortion has been entrenched in our society for so long that in order to be successful in this fight we need significant changes that occur gradually. Our society has been doused with cold water for too long. I say it’s time to turn up the heat.

Many Americans know what I’m talking about. Back in March, over 63,000 pro-life participants in 145 cities across the U.S stood in solidarity to protest the Obama Administration’s HHS mandate that forced religious employers to provide contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs.

Americans will fight, to the point of civil disobedience, not to be bullied into paying for drugs that directly go against their conscience, are harmful to women, and kill innocent pre-born children.

Travel across the border to the “Great” White North, where some Canadians are too busy mourning over the NHL lockout than to care about undemocratic practices such as forced taxpayer funded abortion.

We have been forced to aid and abet in the killing of preborn children for far too long.  Insert: awesome pro-life young people. Since CLC Youth’s major Defund Abortion Campaign kicking-off last fall with a rally at Queens Park, we have been busy at work setting the framework for success. Since then, over 40,000 pamphlets have been delivered by constituents in ridings across the province, over 23,000 signatures have been collected for our petition in every riding across the province, and various members of provincial parliament have been visited by their constituents. Various MPPs are becoming increasingly sympathetic to our cause, with some even interested in taking this initiative further in Queens Park. Instead of giving ourselves a small pat-on-the-back, however, we’re here to tell you that it’s time to take it to the next level.

On Saturday, October 13th, 2012, Campaign Life Coalition is organizing “Mini Defund Abortion Rallies” in front of MPP’s offices in ridings across the province. These rallies will happen on the same day, at the same time, to maximize the sheer awesomeness of this event. But we can’t do it alone. We need your help. We need you on the ground level, to help us organize a mini rally in your riding. The work will be minimal, but the result monumental. As one MPP in Toronto recently told me, in order to win, we need to “raise up the silent majority”.  Polls have consistently shown that the majority of Ontarians are not happy with the status quo of abortion funding. We are not alone. Help us achieve victory in this battle, so that we can win the war.  If thousands of people can wait on the streets of Toronto for hours to catch a glimpse of Ryan Gosling walk from his limo into a movie theatre during TIFF, we can get people to stand with us for a cause that trumps golden locks and baby-blue eyes.

As MP David Anderson said at this year’s March for Life, “You must continue this fight. You can see that it is only when the 70% across this country who want protection for the unborn step forward, that governments will have the courage to actually deal with this issue”.

Youth to Canadian MPs: Represent us!

Youth across Canada want their voices heard, especially when they are constantly being stifled by Liberal leader Justin Trudeau and New Democrat MP Niki Ashton. Judging from this video, they won't be silenced!

Youth: We’ve got the power to end abortion. Here’s the proof.

It seems the NDP are running scared after thousands of young people took to Twitter, Facebook and e-mail urging their MPs to vote against Niki Ashton’s extreme pro-abortion motion, M-510. The motion, which calls on parliament to formally affirm that "a woman's right to choose abortion is a fundamental question of equality and human rights, both in Canada and around the world", was placed on notice on May 8th, 2014, the same day over 20,000 people gathered on parliament hill for the March for Life calling for pro-life legislation.

As news surfaced of this radical pro-abortion motion, young people from pro-life youth organizations across Canada joined the #No2Niki campaign, writing e-mails, making videos and tweeting them at their MPs urging their members of parliament to represent them and vote against Motion 510.

Various MPs, including the Honourable Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, responded to the campaign, saying pro-life Canadians can count on the Conservative government to vote against Motion 510, saying their focus will be “helping the mothers, newborn + children of the world”.

Just days after this enormous backlash, the NDP appear to be backing away from Ashton’s vote on abortion rights for the time being, although the motion will remain on the order paper and could be brought forward any time in the future.

As my boss, Jim Hughes says, "the youth are not the future of the pro-life movement, they’re the present". This is just the beginning.

Say #No2Niki

"Niki, Niki you're so blind, you're so blind you blow my mind!"

Niki Ashton is at it again - out to ruin women and children by forcing her extreme pro-abortion agenda down our throats once again. On May 8, 2014 (the SAME day that 23,000 people marched on Parliament Hill in the National March for Life), NDP MP Niki Ashton put forward a motion seeking to have Members of Parliament vote on whether access to abortion is a “fundamental question of equality and human rights, both in Canada and around the world.”

Abortion? A "fundamental human right"? As a woman, it's terrifying to me that a Member of Parliament wants it declared that killing another human is a "fundamental human right." It’s also quite ironic that the same MP who was recently vocally opposed to a motion condemning female gendercide on the grounds that it re-opens the abortion debate, is now championing a motion on expanding abortion access.

Here's where you and your beautiful faces come into play. CLC Youth is urging you to get out your phones and web cams and record yourself a) thanking Niki Ashton for re-opening the abortion debate in Parliament, demonstrating that this issue isn't settled in Canada and b) urging your MP to represent you and vote AGAINST Motion 510.

Upload your videos to YouTube and tweet them to your MP and the Prime Minister using the hashtag #No2Niki. If you don't have Twitter, either set-up an account or e-mail your Member of Parliament AND CLC Youth with your video so we can tweet it out for you (

It takes five minutes and could help this anti-life motion crash and burn in Parliament, giving the pro-life movement one of the biggest pro-life political victories our country has ever seen.
