Ever had a yearning to boil a frog? Me neither. If I DID want to (hypothetically speaking OF COURSE), 19th-century science suggests that the best way to do it is to put the frog in cold water and slowly turn up the heat. If poor little Kermit was placed in boiling water, he would jump out, but if he’s placed in cold water that was slowly heated, Kermy would not perceive the danger and be cooked to death. Terrible to think about, I know, especially on the heels of the new Muppets movie.

The point is, abortion has been entrenched in our society for so long that in order to be successful in this fight we need significant changes that occur gradually. Our society has been doused with cold water for too long. I say it’s time to turn up the heat.

Many Americans know what I’m talking about. Back in March, over 63,000 pro-life participants in 145 cities across the U.S stood in solidarity to protest the Obama Administration’s HHS mandate that forced religious employers to provide contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs.

Americans will fight, to the point of civil disobedience, not to be bullied into paying for drugs that directly go against their conscience, are harmful to women, and kill innocent pre-born children.

Travel across the border to the “Great” White North, where some Canadians are too busy mourning over the NHL lockout than to care about undemocratic practices such as forced taxpayer funded abortion.

We have been forced to aid and abet in the killing of preborn children for far too long.  Insert: awesome pro-life young people. Since CLC Youth’s major Defund Abortion Campaign kicking-off last fall with a rally at Queens Park, we have been busy at work setting the framework for success. Since then, over 40,000 pamphlets have been delivered by constituents in ridings across the province, over 23,000 signatures have been collected for our petition in every riding across the province, and various members of provincial parliament have been visited by their constituents. Various MPPs are becoming increasingly sympathetic to our cause, with some even interested in taking this initiative further in Queens Park. Instead of giving ourselves a small pat-on-the-back, however, we’re here to tell you that it’s time to take it to the next level.

On Saturday, October 13th, 2012, Campaign Life Coalition is organizing “Mini Defund Abortion Rallies” in front of MPP’s offices in ridings across the province. These rallies will happen on the same day, at the same time, to maximize the sheer awesomeness of this event. But we can’t do it alone. We need your help. We need you on the ground level, to help us organize a mini rally in your riding. The work will be minimal, but the result monumental. As one MPP in Toronto recently told me, in order to win, we need to “raise up the silent majority”.  Polls have consistently shown that the majority of Ontarians are not happy with the status quo of abortion funding. We are not alone. Help us achieve victory in this battle, so that we can win the war.  If thousands of people can wait on the streets of Toronto for hours to catch a glimpse of Ryan Gosling walk from his limo into a movie theatre during TIFF, we can get people to stand with us for a cause that trumps golden locks and baby-blue eyes.

As MP David Anderson said at this year’s March for Life, “You must continue this fight. You can see that it is only when the 70% across this country who want protection for the unborn step forward, that governments will have the courage to actually deal with this issue”.
