Irish government stacks abortion panel with legal abortion advocates

by Hilary White, Rome Correspondent Tue Jan 17 18:43 EST Comments (5)

Niamh Ui Bhriain

DUBLIN, January 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Irish coalition government has included in an “expert committee” on abortion the lawyer who acted in the notorious “X case,” the 1992 attempt to overturn the country’s constitutional amendment outlawing abortion.

Niamh Ui Bhriain, the head of the Dublin-based Life Institute, told LifeSiteNews.com that the move is only the latest step by pro-abortion elements in government who are preparing the way to legalize abortion. “Unfortunately, we’ve seen that committees like this have been used in the past to carry out a pre-ordained anti-life agenda,” she said.

The 14-member committee also includes Dr. Deirdre Madden, a law lecturer who has stated that there are “very strong reasons for believing the embryo is not yet a person.” Another appointee is Dr. Ailish Ní Riain, a GP who has written medical practice guidelines describing unborn children as “contents of the uterus” and insisting that doctors should assist in referring mothers for abortion.

The government has established the panel to advise on Ireland’s abortion laws in response to the December 2010 ruling by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) which claimed the X case means the law must allow abortion when the mother’s life is endangered.

This “life-saving abortion” exception, Ui Bhriain said, is the one most commonly presented by abortionist groups like Planned Parenthood as a wedge issue in their attempts to force the full legalization of abortion. The existing law, however, already includes provisions allowing necessary medical procedures which may cause the unintended death of the unborn child in order to save the mother’s life. Irish medical experts have testified that such procedures are not abortions because the intention of the intervention is never to harm the baby.

The ECHR claimed that the 1983 constitutional amendment outlawing abortion violates women’s “right to privacy.” The court instructed the government to issue guidance to allow doctors to inform women in what circumstances abortion is a legal option. Although the ruling said that there is no “human right to abortion” implied by the European Convention on Human Rights, it claimed that Ireland’s law implies a right to abortion.

“Pro-abortion campaigners,” Ui Bhriain said, “are anxious to use the ECHR ruling to insist that the government describes perfectly ethical procedures as ‘legal, life-saving abortions’.”

This, she said, would undermine the pro-life clause in the constitution and allow for a flood of Planned Parenthood-sponsored cases to force full legalization.

Although repeated polling has shown that over 60 percent of the Irish public supports the law, the government is increasingly hostile, particularly since the last election that ushered in the coalition. The government’s junior partner, the Labour Party, is openly and aggressively pro-abortion.

Labour leader Eamon Gilmore has said that abortion must be legalized “where the life or health of the mother is at risk.” While the main government party, Fine Gael, does not include legalization in its policies, the party does not exclude pro-abortion MPs or candidates.

Pro-life observers in Europe are watching the Irish situation closely, concerned that one of the last EU countries with a meaningful legal prohibition will cave to international pressure. With Ireland giving up its legal protections for the unborn, it becomes harder for other countries like Poland and Malta to maintain their opposition to abortion. The ruling has raised concerns among EU pro-life advocates and democracy campaigners that the ECHR has the power to overturn laws and undermine national sovereignty.

Ui Bhriain said, “The law protects both unborn children and current medical practice which ensures that pregnant women are not denied any necessary care.

“The propaganda from pro-abortion campaigners since the ECHR ruling has been relentless however, and their repeated claims that women need ‘life-saving abortions’ is causing confusion. Correcting this is the major challenge for the Life Institute this year.”

Former abortionist: ‘the way to be a millionaire was to do 40,000 abortions a year’

by Kathleen Gilbert Tue Jan 17 18:13 EST Comments (15)

BETHESDA, Maryland, January 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A new pro-life documentary hosted by Governor Mike Huckabee includes the testimony of a former abortionist who says she sold abortions to women simply in pursuit of money.

Carol Everett, spurred by the anguish caused by her own abortion, began her own abortion business in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in the 1980s before a chance encounter with a pastor showed her the way out.

“I wanted to be a millionaire,” says Everett on the trailer to The Gift of Life. “And the way for me to be a millionaire was to do 40,000 abortions a year.”

Everett’s story is one of several on the new documentary, hosted by former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, which also explores the testimony of several individuals who were nearly the victims of an abortion, but were spared.

The film will premier at the Students for Life of America Conference in Bethesda, Maryland, Jan 22, the day before the March for Life.

“I look forward to meeting the 2,000 students who will be attending this important conference and sharing the inspirational pro-life film ‘The Gift of Life’ with them on the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade,” said Governor Mike Huckabee.

The largest student pro-life conference in the world, the SFLA event at the North Bethesda Marriott will offer students a full day packed with appearances by prominent pro-life leaders, including Huckabee, plus opportunities for education, training, and networking with fellow students.

The event, like previous years, has already sold out with 2,000 youth signed up. However, those who wish to attend online can follow the event at SFLAlive.org. http://www.sflalive.org/

Organizers hope to promote an even more forward-thinking mentality this year: Kristan Hawkins, Executive Director of Students for Life of America, said that the 2012 National Conference will be the first to focus on the ramifications of “a post-Roe v. Wade nation.”

“If we are ever going to end legal abortion in America, we need to start talking about it, envision what it will look like, and make our plans for victory now,” said Hawkins on the SFLA Conference website. “The 2012 Students for Life of America National Conference will start this historic conversation so we will see the end of the legal abortion in our lifetimes.”

Outrage as Greece adds pedophilia to list of ‘disabilities’

by Peter Sprigg Tue Jan 17 18:02 EST Comments (2)

Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council.

January 17, 2012 (FRCblog.com) - This week brought yet another of those “you’ve gotta be kidding” stories.

The Associated Press reports that the Greek government has expanded its list of officially recognized “disabilities” to include pedophiles (as well as exhibitionists, kleptomaniacs, and pyromaniacs).

This means pedophiles in Greece may now qualify for government-funded disability pay—not despite, but because of, their pedophilia.

I assume that the “disability” classification stems from identifying pedophilia as a mental illness. Yet not every “illness” is a “disability.” Wikipedia offers several definitions of “disability,” but a central concept is the existence of a “restriction in the ability to perform a normal activity of daily living.” Pedophiles do not have a “restriction in the ability to perform a normal activity.” They have an inclination to perform an abnormal activity. This is not a disability.

Taking pedophilia out of the realm of moral judgment and into the realm of mental health is one step toward normalizing it. Some advocates, like those at a conference in Baltimore last summer, would like to go the rest of the way and remove pedophilia from the list of mental disorders altogether. Now Greece is on the verge of actively subsidizing it.

Taken to an extreme, the Greek action runs the risk of creating a truly perverse incentive—for otherwise healthy individuals to become (or pretend to be) pedophiles merely in order to obtain government support payments.

Fortunately, Greek disability advocates have condemned the move as “incomprehensible.” Yannis Vardakastanis, who is blind, said, “It’s really not not serious to grant Peeping Toms a 20-30 pecent disability rate and 10 percent to diabetics.”

Given the fiscal crisis that has confronted Greece in recent years, it boggles the mind that they would even consider giving payments to pedophiles.

63% of French favor gay ‘marriage’: poll

by Matthew Cullinan Hoffman Tue Jan 17 17:32 EST Comments (1)

French President Nicholas Sarkozy

January 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - As France moves towards the next presidential election a little more than three months away, a new poll indicates that a strong majority of French citizens now support a key element in the anti-family agenda of the French left: the creation of homosexual “marriage.”

Although France was the first country in Europe to create civil union legislation for homosexuals, it has resisted pressure to open up the institution of marriage to same-sex couples, which would also allow them to adopt children.  In June of last year, the French National Assembly voted down a measure to do so.

However, a new poll conducted by the publication Le Parisian indicates that 63% of French citizens now favor the creation of homosexual “marriage,” a figure five percent higher than that from a poll in the first half of 2011.

The same poll indicates that only 51% of people who consider themselves “right-wing” continue to oppose such a measure.

Click “like” if you want to defend true marriage.

The growing favor for gay “marriage” has created new pressure on President Nicolas Sarkozy to change his position on the subject. Sarkozy proposed the creation of stronger civil union legislation for homosexuals in the past, but at that time his party opposed such a measure. The current civil unions, called Civil Solidarity Pacts, create very weak obligations between couples and are used mostly by heterosexuals.

The French homosexual magazine “Liberation” recently ran a story citing a source close to Sarkozy claiming that the president is open to changing his position on homosexual “marriage,” in what appeared to be an attempt by the administration to test the public’s reaction.

The Sarkozy administration has responded that the story is false and that Sarkozy “has absolutely not changed his mind and does not favor the opening of marriage to homosexual couples.”

Parliamentarian members of Sarkozy’s Union for a Popular Movement and New Center parties are responding to the new pressure by reaffirming their opposition to homosexual “marriage.” So far, 82 have done so.

Swedish politician calls for even harsher penalties for homeschooling

by The Editors Tue Jan 17 16:56 EST Comments (8)

Liberal Party politician Lotta Edholm

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A leader of Sweden’s Liberal Party last week called for a change in the country’s social services law so that the government can take children away from home-schooling families more easily by allowing social workers to do so.

The call for the change comes amidst already stringent penalties in Sweden for home schooling. The Home School Legal Defense Association and Alliance Defense Fund have applied to the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of one family whose child was abducted by the government in 2009 and have filed a brief in a Swedish appellate court on behalf of another family fined an amount equivalent to $26,000 U.S..

“The right of parents to choose the kind of education their children receive is a fundamental human right recognized in international legal documents including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” said HSLDA attorney Michael Donnelly. “Sweden has lost its way and is ignoring basic human rights joining Germany in repressing educational freedom. It’s important that free people stand up to governments who persecute their own people.”

Liberal Party politician Lotta Edholm called for the change to the country’s social services law in a Jan. 10 column in Aftonbladet, a prominent Swedish newspaper. Edholm then wrote on her blog: “Today I write with Ann-Katrin Aslund on Aftonbladet’s debate page that the social services law should be amended so that social services are able to intervene when children are kept away from school by their parents—often for religious or ideological reasons.”

The statement is the most direct and serious threat to date for home-schooling families in the Nordic country, where the climate for home-schooling has continued to deteriorate. The Swedish Court of Appeal has agreed to review three different cases in which government officials denied permission to home-school.

“Parents have the right and authority to make decisions regarding their children’s education without government interference,” said ADF Legal Counsel Roger Kiska. “Swedish policy on home education is at odds with recognized international legal standards that uphold the right of parents to direct the education of their children.”

Abortion, marijuana supported by Liberal Party delegates

by Peter Baklinski Tue Jan 17 16:16 EST Comments (6)

(Editor’s note: A previous version of this story erroneously reported that the euthanasia resolution passed when it in fact it was not voted on. We regret the error.)

OTTAWA, Ontario, January 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Liberal Party of Canada decided at their recent convention to include abortion and marijuana as significant pieces of their rebuilding process.

Access to “legal abortion” became a “priority resolution” at the convention to be adopted as an official “Party policy.” The resolution “Reaffirming Women’s Right to Reproductive Health Services” put forward by National Women’s Liberal Commission was passed with 92% of the vote.

According to the resolution, since “legal abortion” as “guaranteed under the Canada Health Act” is an “integral part of women’s overall health care,” which some health institutions “refuse to perform” or outright “exclude” from their list of services, the Liberal Party of Canada will “urge the Government of Canada to enforce the provisions of the Canada Health Act to guarantee women’s access to timely and effective reproductive health services.”

The resolution also demands that the “Government of Canada financially penalize provinces that fail to abide by the provisions of the Canada Health Act” regarding reproductive services, including access to abortion.

A “leading resolution” to legalize pot was passed by 77% of delegates and put forward by the Young Liberals of Canada (British Columbia). The convention resolved that a new Liberal government will “legalize marijuana and ensure the regulation and taxation of its production, distribution, and use, while enacting strict penalties for illegal trafficking, illegal importation and exportation, and impaired driving.”

While proposing to decriminalize the use of the drug for non-therapeutic purposes, the resolution would also have a Liberal government “invest significant resources in prevention and education programs designed to promote awareness of the health risks and consequences of marijuana use and dependency, especially amongst youth.”

Another “leading resolution” put forward by the Young Liberals of Canada (Manitoba) proposed support for euthanasia, but did not make it to the floor for a vote. The resolution stated that the Liberal party of Canada believes that “chronically ill people have the right to decide when they pass away,” that “immediate family” has the right “to determine whether or not it is timely for a patient with a chronic illness to pass away,” and that “immediate family” has the right to “pursue the option of euthanasia.”

The Liberal Convention was held from January 13 to January 15, 2012.

Sex-selective abortion of girls is ‘evil’ and must stop: Canadian doc in leading medical journal

by Thaddeus Baklinski Tue Jan 17 15:36 EST Comments (5)

OTTAWA, January 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Canada should prohibit disclosure of the sex of an unborn child until after about 30 weeks of pregnancy to combat female feticide, a practice that is widespread in many Asian countries and is becoming common in some ethnic groups in North America, argues an editorial in the January 16 issue of the Canadian Medical Association Journal by interim editor-in-chief Dr. Rajendra Kale.

“Some readers might be skeptical about whether female feticide is in fact taking place in Canada and the United States,” says Dr. Kale in his article titled “‘It’s a girl!’— could be a death sentence.” However, he goes on to observe, “research in Canada has found the strongest evidence of sex selection at higher parities if previous children were girls among Asians — that is people from India, China, Korea, Vietnam and Philippines.”

“What this means is that many couples who have two daughters and no son selectively get rid of female fetuses until they can ensure that their third-born child is a boy,” Dr. Kale writes.

Dr. Kale notes, “Female feticide happens in India and China by the millions,” which has caused such a critical gender imbalance in some regions that sex slavery and even “wife sharing” have become grave problems.

“Should female feticide in Canada be ignored because it is a small problem localized to minority ethnic groups?” Dr. Kale asks.

“No,” he rejoins, pointing out that sex-selective abortion is “discrimination against women in its most extreme form.”

“This evil devalues women. How can it be curbed? The solution is to postpone the disclosure of medically irrelevant information to women until after about 30 weeks of pregnancy.”

“A pregnant woman being told the sex of the fetus at ultrasonography at a time when an unquestioned abortion is possible is the starting point of female feticide from a health care perspective,” Dr. Kale explains. “Therefore, doctors should be allowed to disclose this information only after about 30 weeks of pregnancy — in other words, when an unquestioned abortion is all but impossible.”

This, however, would not necessarily stop sex-selective abortion of girls, due Canada’s total lack of abortion law, which means that a woman can legally abort her child right up to the moment of complete birth. However, it would likely be considerably more difficult to find a willing abortionist that late in pregnancy.

Dr. Kale suggests, as a compromise to the lack of regulative legislation, that the provincial colleges that regulate physicians should establish rules stating that revealing the gender of an unborn child before 30 weeks gestation should be considered contrary to good medical practice.

“Such information is medically irrelevant and in some instances harmful,” he said.

Dr. Kale says guidelines directing doctors to discourage sex-selective abortion are already in place in several provinces, but they “do little more than provide lip service to tackling female feticide.”

Dr. Kale concludes that although the problem of female feticide in Canada is small, Canadian doctors now have the opportunity to lead the way in stopping this “evil [that] devalues women.”

“Postponing the transmission of such information is a small price to pay to save thousands of girls in Canada. Compared with the situation in India and China, the problem of female feticide in Canada is small, circumscribed and manageable. If Canada cannot control this repugnant practice, what hope do India and China have of saving millions of women?”

New ‘Pro-life Nation’ initiative launched to end abortion in U.S.

by Kathleen Gilbert Tue Jan 17 15:14 EST Comments (1)

WICHITA, Kansas, January 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A new Internet-based campaign launched this week seeks to expose the legal and medical abuses perpetrated by abortionists and to demand enforcement of abortion facility regulations.

Operation Rescue has launched Pro-Life Nation, a website intended to implement a goal-oriented strategy to end abortion in the United States.

“Thirty-nine years after the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision unleashed the floodgate to decriminalized abortion at the cost of over 50 million innocent lives, we believe that we are very close to stopping abortion in America,” states the group in a booklet that it released as part of the new project. “A unified strategy within the pro-life movement could soon bring the final end to this unparalleled national scourge. “

Pro-life Nation’s first project, AbortionDocs.org, is a searchable database that endeavors to list every surgical abortion clinic, every “abortion pill-only” clinic, and every abortionist in the United States. The website says it contains the largest collection of documents ever compiled on the abortion industry.

Click “like” if you want to end abortion!

Documents include photos, medical license applications, malpractice suits, disciplinary records, news articles, videos, criminal histories, and more.

Pro-Life Nation is looking to partner with key pro-life leaders to contribute to the Abortiondocs.org database so that the true scope of abortion abuses that occur daily in the U.S. can be documented and exposed to the American people.

“We believe that with the current climate in America, abortion could be eliminated every soon, if a goal-oriented strategy is employed that includes cooperation among various pro-life organizations and individuals,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman, who will also serve as president of Pro-Life Nation.

Newman said that, while Operation Rescue will exist as the activist arm of the group, most investigations will now be conducted under the banner of Pro-Life Nation. Operation Rescue has previously spearheaded several efforts to regulate or enforce regulations of abortion clinics across America found to be practicing sub-standard medicine.

“Through Pro-life Nation, we will enlist pro-life supporters across the nation to work together in new ways to expose and report abortion misdeeds, hold officials accountable for enforcing our laws, and build a society that is truly a Pro-Life Nation,” he said.

Target, Nordstrom praised for using child model with Down syndrome

by Peter Baklinski Tue Jan 17 14:10 EST Comments (13)

January 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – If you were thumbing through Nordstrom’s 2011 Anniversary Catalog or browsing through Target’s early January ads, you may have noticed a little boy about 6 years old. He was sporting a stylish leather jacket and wearing dapper blue jeans, or wearing a bright orange shirt with black striped sleeves.

But even if you did notice him, you might be surprised to discover that the boy happens to have been born with Down syndrome. His name is Ryan.

The fact that Ryan was placed side-by-side with other children who don’t have Down syndrome has been hailed by pro-life and disability rights advocates as a great example of how people with a disability should be treated.

Rick Smith, creator and administrator of a website and blog that offers a daily glimpse into the life of his family as he and his wife raise their 2 year-old son Noah, who has Down syndrome, says that he is “glad” that mainstream companies are finally starting to cast an eye on children with Down syndrome as models in their regular ads.

Smith says that such ads give the message that people born with Down syndrome “deserve to be treated the same as every other person on this planet.”

Currently, most children with Down syndrome are not treated the same as every other person. In fact, when parents discover through prenatal testing that their child bears the genetic anomaly of having an extra 21st chromosome, 90% of them decide that their child does not deserve to see the light of day, and will get an abortion. This despite the fact that recent studies show that 99% of people with Down syndrome say they are happy, 96% like how they look, and 97% like who they are.

Click “like” if you want to end abortion!

Smith says that the time has come for the world to see people born with disabilities with a “fresh set of eyes.” It is time to “lay down all the inaccurate stereotypes from the past and move forward embracing the future with true and accurate ones,” he says.

Smith finds it humorous when people tell him that they will pray for Noah’s healing. “Down syndrome,” he says, is Noah’s “entire genetic code … If you were to ‘take away’ Down syndrome [from our son], you would take away our son. He would have a completely different genetic code, thus being a completely different person.”

“Please don’t pray for our son to be ‘healed’ of Down syndrome,” begs Smith jokingly, “we really like our son, and would prefer to keep him!”

Ryan’s mom Amanda agrees with Smith’s sentiment.

“Our children with Down Syndrome are amazing! So many have had huge health obstacles to overcome from the very beginning of their lives. We, their families, know how far they have come, and how much more is ahead of them. Every day is a journey, and a celebration,” she wrote on a blog.

Ryan’s mother is pleased that her son is called to model in ads for prestigious companies. “We are honored that Ryan is making the Down Syndrome community proud. He is a beautiful boy inside and out. He makes us better parents, and a better family.”

Smith has nothing but thanks for companies like Target that turn to children like Ryan for that extra special ingredient that makes their goods look good.

“As a father of a son born with a disability I want to sincerely thank you,” he wrote on his blog.

“I hope that more companies choose to follow the great example that you guys have set. By choosing to embrace the exciting future and limitless opportunities for people like my son [with Down syndrome], organizations like yours are leading the way in showing the world that our world isn’t forced to live in the past.”

Say no to Girl Scout cookies

by Cathy Cleaver Ruse Tue Jan 17 13:05 EST Comments (145)

Or is it? Cathy Ruse argues that Girl Scouts' ties with abortion giant Planned Parenthood, and a morally "progressive" agenda discounts it from receiving our support.

January 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - When our sweet little neighbor in her brown camp uniform came knocking on our door this year, we had to say no. I told her mother that I didn’t want to hurt Katie’s feelings, but I couldn’t support the Girl Scout cookie sale anymore because I’d learned too much about the organizers’ agenda, primarily their support for abortion and partnership with Planned Parenthood.

I worried that my “political” stand would cause uneasiness between us, but her response put me at ease: “Well,” she said, “they do use unpaid child labor to make their sales, and the troop only gets 10 percent of the revenues anyway.”

True. According to the Girl Scouts’ website, the lion’s share of the money goes not to the troop but to bureaucrats up the chain of command in multicounty councils. The national office gets a piece of the pie, too, in the form of royalties based on gross annual sales volume - about 200 million boxes per year.

It’s a sacrifice, because I love the cookies and the cuties who sell them, but enough is enough.

I remember the Girl Scouts being flaky way back in the early 1970s. When I was a Brownie, I was told to recite some chant and step over a mirror. If I had known the word, I would have called it “pagan.” Even an unchurched girl of 7 could smell a rat.

Last year, the Girl Scouts decided to admit boys who dress as girls. When asked to admit a cross-dressing 7-year-old boy, a Colorado troop leader demurred, explaining to his mother, with tact and irrefutable logic, that her son couldn’t be a Girl Scout because he has “boy parts.”

The troop leader was chastised by the mom as being insensitive and promptly was overruled by the Girl Scout top brass, who, in a statement said, “If a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout.” Perpetuating this cruel charade on the little boy and forcing little girls to participate in it is “inclusiveness” to the Girl Scouts. To others, it’s child abuse.

But it shouldn’t be surprising: The Girl Scouts have a cross-dresser in the front office.

Ten years ago, Girl Scouts media relations officer Joshua Ackley was frontman for the “homopunk” band the Dead Betties. In publicity shots, he’s dressed in women’s clothing, and in music videos, he appears to be naked and feigning masturbation. The video for “Hellevator” portrays a woman being strangled in an elevator shaft while Mr. Ackley flashes a menacing grin.

Today he issues press releases, posts news and views on the Girl Scouts’ blog, and tries to mollify moms who are concerned about Girl Scout ties with Planned Parenthood. In fact, it was Mr. Ackley who facilitated the Girl Scouts’ “no adults allowed” workshop at the United Nations - the workshop in which the Planned Parenthood sex brochure “Healthy, Happy, and Hot” was offered, although part of Mr. Ackley’s job is to deny it.

Click “like” if you want to end abortion!

It wouldn’t be a surprise if someone like Mr. Ackley was behind the Girl Scouts’ recent scandal: a guidebook that tells girls to check with the leftist, George Soros-funded Media Matters before believing what they read in the news.

As boys send in their orders for Brownie beanies and tights, the Girl Scouts have declared 2012 to be “The Year of the Girl,” announcing that they will be “working to break down societal barriers that prevent girls from leading in their own lives.” What barriers? What does “leading in their own lives” even mean? Forgive me for thinking it has something to do with sex or abortion.

Several years ago. a quarter of the Girl Scout councils nationwide admitted to partnering with Planned Parenthood, the nation’s abortion giant. When questioned about the affiliation on NBC’s “Today Show,” Girl Scout CEO Kathy Cloninger had no compunction in confirming it.

The Girl Scouts have been “pro-choice” for years, but now they’ve been caught supporting promiscuous sex for girls. The Planned Parenthood sex guide offered at that “girls only” U.N. meeting offered this advice on Page 11: “Some people have sex when they have been drinking alcohol or using drugs. This is your choice. ... If you want to have sex and think you might get drunk or high, plan ahead by bringing condoms and lube or putting them close to where you usually have sex.”

Heard enough? There’s a lot more at 100questionsforthegirlscouts.org.

Earlier this month, a young Girl Scout employee, Renise Rodriguez, made the mistake of stopping by the office to do extra work on her own time in a T-shirt bearing the words: “Pray to End Abortion.” A supervisor ordered her to turn the shirt inside out or leave the office. She left, for good.

So should we all.

Mexico’s ‘conservative’ party floats pro-abortion candidate for Mexico City mayor

by Matthew Cullinan Hoffman Tue Jan 17 12:28 EST Comments (0)

Isabel Miranda de Wallace

MEXICO CITY, January 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Mexico’s historically socially-conservative party, the National Action Party (PAN), has nominated a pro-abortion politician for the 2012 Mexico City mayoral race.

“It’s not that I’m in favor of abortion. I respect the fact that each woman has the freedom to do what she wants with her body and I am going to defend that all of the time,” Isabel Miranda de Wallace recently told the press, according to the newspaper El Universal.

“We aren’t minors who don’t know what we’re doing,” she added. “I am going to respect what is already in the law and of course I will respect what each person decides.”

“What is already in the law” in Mexico City is a measure, passed in 2007, legalizing abortion on demand during the first trimester of pregnancy, and providing the deadly procedure free of charge in city hospitals.

Click “like” if you want to end abortion!

Since the law was passed a little less than five years ago, over 70,000 unborn children have been killed in Mexico City’s public hospitals alone, a number roughly equivalent to the total number of live births last year.

Although the PAN has historically positioned itself as a pro-Catholic and pro-life party, fighting against the legalization of abortion in Mexico City and throughout Mexico, its leaders have warmly accepted the candidacy of Miranda. However, pro-lifers in the nation’s Federal District have organized a call-in campaign to PAN headquarters in protest.

The irony of the situation was noted recently by political commentator Rosario Robles in Milenio, one of Mexico City’s three largest-circulation newspapers, who called the situation “complicated for a party that has made this dispute one of its principle causes, that has fought without success to have these reforms (legalizing abortion in Mexico City) declared unconstitutional and that surely does not share the position of who is today its candidate.”

Santorum tragedy exposes perversion of abortion industry

by Susan Michelle Tyrrell Tue Jan 17 11:38 EST Comments (20)

Rick and Karen Santorum

January 17, 2012 (Bound4Life.com) - Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has been facing some criticism in the media about an event that highlights the perversion of the abortion industry. After his strong show in Iowa, media pundits came out with stories from his past, including one below-the-belt attack regarding the Santorums’ tragedy in 1996 when their baby Gabriel was born prematurely at 20 weeks, and died after only two hours of life. The Santorums chose to take their baby home to let the family see and grieve his life. This story will tell you the background if you missed the attacks and criticism behind their decision. But what no news agency is talking about is the perverted irony of the situation.

The Santorums took their baby home to let their family understand the death and properly mourn the loss of life, as people do in grief. This was especially important for their children to understand the value of life. ABC News reported that Karen Santorum wrote in her book (addressing Gabriel):

‘‘Elizabeth and Johnny held you with so much love and tenderness,” she wrote. “Elizabeth proudly announced to everyone as she cuddled you, ‘This is my baby brother, Gabriel; he is an angel.’‘

The story adds:

But some mental health experts believe the Santorums may have been ahead of their time by ritualizing their son’s death in order to exorcize their grief, though they say taking a body home is unusual and not recommended.

What’s notable is that many of those mental health experts would say that abortion is an appropriate choice and recommended in certain cases. And one of the popular methods for abortion also involves a dead baby in the home, but not in such a natural way.

RU-486, also known as a medical abortion, has a patient go home and take the series of pills and, literally, deliver a dead baby into the toilet. Does that sound harsh? Perhaps that’s because it’s harsh on the baby who’s flushed away.

According to Planned Parenthood’s own description, which you can find here, here’s what happens with the abortion pill:

You and your health care provider will plan the timing and place for the second step. You’ll take the second medicine up to three days after taking the abortion pill. Your health care provider will give you instructions on how and when to take the second medicine…The second medicine — misoprostol — will cause you to have cramps and bleed heavily. Some women may begin bleeding before taking the second medicine. But for most, the bleeding and cramping begin after taking it. It usually lasts a few hours. You may see large blood clots or tissue at the time of the abortion. ...More than half of women abort within four or five hours after taking the second medicine. For others, it takes longer. But most women abort within a few days. It’s normal to have some bleeding or spotting for up to four weeks after the abortion.

Please read between the lines. You go home (you can go other places but most women go home or to a loved one’s home, which is the point of choosing a medical abortion), take pills, bleed profusely and within 4-5 hours deliver a dead baby, called “bleeding heavily.”

The cruel irony of these stories is that the Santorums showed a regard and value for life by taking their son home and allowing their family to treasure and love him, while the abortion industry shows a total disregard for life by sending a woman home to flush out the baby. The ones that have valued life are said to be weird and fringe and the ones that have devalued life are praised for making a “safe and legal choice.”

This story isn’t about a presidential candidate, but about a family who values life. You don’t have to agree with his politics to see the issue at hand. The Bible warns in Isaiah 5:20:

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

Do we see this in the abortion industry? That it would call such an evil good is horrific enough, but to turn and then label a family who values life as a deviation from good and normal proves the twisted culture in which we live. Amos speaks of those “who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness to the ground” (Amos 5:7). The justice of a life of the innocent being allowed to live is being cast into the ground, flushed out through the sewers and called right by an industry that values death in the name of choice.

The Santorums’ story isn’t political, it’s human. It’s about the value of life and a family who is training their own children to value all life. That we live in a culture that could condemn this is only another line of evidence that we are a nation in trouble from the destruction of legalized murder.

The silliest pro-abortion argument ever (is one you hear all the time)

by Kristen Walker Hatten Tue Jan 17 11:02 EST Comments (62)

The Ten Commandments: All up in your business since circa 1440 B.C.

January 17, 2012 (LiveAction.org) - Tell me if this has ever happened to you.

It’s lunchtime. You are eating at your desk at work and decide to look at Facebook. It’s as exciting as ever. Your aunt had a burrito for lunch. A girl you haven’t seen since college got a new tattoo. Someone is super happy it’s almost Friday.

Then you see that a virtual stranger (there’s a double meaning in that) has commented on one of your posts. And she has said something so asinine that you put down your fried pickle (’cause you’re in Texas and you eat stuff like that) and respond.

It’s daunting, the task before you. Do you even want to undertake this? Can you really change someone’s mind about abortion in one Facebook comment?*

Well, you’re gonna try. So you launch into refuting whatever dumb thing the person just said. “There’s no scientific concensus that life begins at conception!” “If we make it illegal, they’re gonna do it anyway!” “If you’re against abortion, you should be against war, too!” It could be any of these things, or something else.

Click “like” if you want to end abortion!

So you drop a couple knowledge bombs, go back to your life, and hours later you find the following response:

“Well, maybe you’re right, but we can’t legislate morality.”

You look around for a candid camera. Is this an elaborate joke? No. Someone actually said that. Again. You sigh. And you type this:

Really? We can’t legislate morality? What do you call it when we tell people they can’t murder? Rape? Steal?

Let’s do some Criminal Justice 101, shall we? There are two types of laws: malum in se and malum prohibitum. Malum in se is a Latin phrase meaning “wrong in itself.” Most of us feel that murder is wrong, therefore there is a law against it. Malum prohibitum means something is wrong because it is prohibited. For example: in the United States we have to drive on the right side of the road, not because driving on the left is inherently evil (I’m lookin’ at you, England!) but because good order meant we had to pick one side. Because we’ve picked right, if you drive on the left, you’re gonna get stopped. Try it, you’ll see.**

Malum in se laws are based on morality. Our laws here in the U.S. grew out of English Common Law, which in turn was based on Judeo-Christian morality. Now, old-timey English lawmakers did not sit around and go, “Hmmm, what should we base our laws on?” And then come up with the Bible because it had an attractive leather cover. Judeo-Christian morality was a part of the culture since the 7th century, and has in fact formed Western culture, culminating most recently in our humble little former colony, the United States.

Detractors will say English Common Law formed in the 5th century, before Christianity took hold in Britain. But the law as we know it didn’t stop forming then. Christian men such as Henry de Bracton in the 13th century in England and Sir William Blackstone in the 18th century in the United States have had a tremendous impact on creating the laws we know today.

Whether you like it or not, the culture that created you is a Judeo-Christian culture. All the things you think are right and wrong were formed by Judeo-Christian principles. Why do you think it’s wrong to have slaves? Western culture is just like most other civilizations in that it engaged in slavery, but unique in that it is solely responsible for ridding the world of it. What about having a harem of concubines? That was common in pre-Christian cultures, not so much in the West today. Sacrificing virgins? No big deal to the pagans, but frowned upon in our time.

The idea of loving people more than ourselves, sacrificing for the poor, turning the other cheek… these ideas were so revolutionary to the Roman world in which Christianity was born that they were scandalous. The tenets of Christianity made Christians so different they were almost universally hated. They were persecuted and killed all over the Roman Empire, until the Emperor Constantine had a vision. But I digress.

So those who cry that morals have no place in public policy are a little too late. Judeo-Christian morals created our public policy, created our culture, were the basis for our founding documents, guided the formation of our nation through the beliefs of our founders, and make up the fabric of our society.

Recently, a postmodern deconstructionist tendency to wipe American law clean of “traditional” morality has created not a sparkling tabula rasa, but a libertine morass. You don’t have to be a Jew or Christian to recognize there is such a thing as right and wrong. Lately, it seems like the only evil people will recognize is believing in evil.

Ironically, the abortion advocate who tells us to keep our morals off her body is herself expressing a moral belief, a belief in liberty. I also believe in liberty, but I believe that in the phrase “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” life comes first for a very good reason: you can’t have liberty without life. I believe a baby’s right to be alive trumps his mother’s right to kill him for any reason she sees fit. Because, as we all know, there are limits to liberty. My liberty ends where, for example, it infringes upon another person’s right to live. Hence, I am free, but not free to murder. I am free to drive, but not into someone’s restaurant. I am free to watch TV, but not “Jersey Shore” at Kristen’s house. And so on.

The next time someone tells you, “We can’t legislate morality,” tell them, “Sure we can! It’s fun and easy! Like Mad Libs!”

But seriously: this is another argument you can easily shoot down with just a little bit of knowledge. Now you know. And knowing is half the battle.***

*No. But one day I’m gonna set a world record and do it in three.

**Please do not try this.

***G.I. Joe

What people of all religions (and no religion) can learn from Tim Tebow’s mom

by Kristen Walker Hatten Tue Jan 17 10:18 EST Comments (3)

Tim Tebow with his parents

January 17, 2012 (LiveAction.org) - I am not a sports fan, so the first time Tim Tebow popped up on my radar was right before the 2010 Super Bowl, when I caught wind that Focus on the Family would be airing an ad during the game featuring Tebow and his mom. According to Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups, it was going to be a piece of blatant anti-choice propaganda pumped into our living rooms against our will that would make all our children Republicans and yadda yadda yadda.

When the ad finally aired, I was watching, and was… kinda disappointed. There was nothing even remotely controversial about it, and I do love me some controversy. Basically Tebow’s mom says Tim almost died in the womb and she’s really glad he didn’t. That’s it. I can’t think of anything less controversial than a mother saying she’s glad her baby was born, but these are strange times we live in.

Since then, Tim Tebow has become something of an icon, and I don’t just mean to sports fans. His passionate, unapologetic Christianity has made him a lightning rod for debate about religion in the public square. To his detractors, he is either a hypocritical phony or a naive Boy Scout. To his supporters, he is either a pretty darn good quarterback you can’t help but root for, or a modern-day prophet. Also, he’s dreamy.

Click “like” if you want to end abortion!

I have been half-watching the rise of Tebow, and grimacing in preparation for the fall. It hasn’t happened yet. Maybe it’s inevitable he gets knocked back a bit, but in any case, he seems to be inspiring more and more people, and doggone it if his religious faith doesn’t seem to be utterly sincere.

Like everyone in America, I knew Tim Tebow’s mom was told to abort him and didn’t, but it wasn’t until yesterday that I learned the complete story. A friend posted a video on Facebook of Tebow’s parents telling the tale to which his mother had only alluded in the infamous Super Bowl ad. It’s basically Tebow’s super hero origin story. He’s like Wolverine, if Wolverine were less an invincible guy with an adamantium skeleton, and more a handsome young chap who plays football and loves Jesus.

Here’s the gist: Tebow’s father was a missionary in the Philippines. One night, while preaching in a remote area, he was overcome with grief at all the children losing their lives to abortion in America, and prayed to God, “If you want another preacher in this world, you give me Timmy.” The next morning he told his family about his prayer, and they joined in with him. Said Mr. Tebow, “We started praying by name for God to give us Timmy.”

At this time, Tebow’s mom was 37 years old and the family already boasted four healthy children. They were living in an area that “didn’t have great medical care,” according to Mrs. Tebow. Friends and loved ones cautioned against having another child. Due to her age and their remote location, a pregnancy would be high risk.

When she conceived, she went to see the local doctor, who told her “it wasn’t a baby at all; it was a mass of fetal tissue, and I needed to abort him immediately if I were going to save my life… Said it was a tumor.”

At that point, said Mrs. Tebow, “We didn’t really have to make a decision.” She said they had decided years previously to trust their children to God. She didn’t have any medical care until months later when they moved to Manila, but throughout the months carrying little Timmy, she was continually sick, and thought she might lose him on a daily basis.

At last, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy and named him Timothy. He was decidedly not a tumor. In fact, he won a Heisman Trophy and became a starting quarterback in the NFL and, strangely enough, through just a few words and a simple gesture, he has become the preacher for whom his father prayed.

This story resonates with Christians because it illustrates trust in God and the hand of providence at work in the lives of the faithful. It is also a profound example of what St. Francis of Assissi meant when he said, “Preach the gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.”

But this story is not just for Christians. It’s for anyone who has ever believed something despite herself. It’s a cautionary tale against putting too much faith in science and technology, and too little in what our hearts tell us. It is a true-life example of how one man of humble origins can have an incalculable impact on a culture.

It is also a powerful testimony to what the world loses when a woman aborts her baby. No one — not even most pro-lifers — would have blamed Mrs. Tebow for saving her own life. But she believed her baby would live — in fact, she bet her life on it – and he did live, in a big way.

We can all learn from Tebow’s mom. She looked ahead into a future that was uncertain, and she had peace. A woman who experiences a crisis pregnancy and chooses life does the same thing. We each do it, every day, to some extent.

No matter our religious beliefs or lack thereof, we should recognize the powerful message in what the Tebow family has experienced. None of us knows what will happen to us tomorrow, or if tomorrow will happen at all. The simple fact that we make plans for next week is an act of faith. It’s what keeps us going. Faith is simply human. It’s what holds back the darkness for every last one of us.

Rather than scoffing at Tim Tebow or worshiping him, let’s be glad he’s one of the children that made it, and that he’s proving how precious life can be when a mother has the courage to choose it.

Judge Advances Obama Administration’s Case Against Elderly Pro-life Activist

by Ben Johnson Mon Jan 16 19:37 EST Comments (10)

Richard Retta

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 16, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) - A federal judge has ruled that the Justice Department’s may proceed with its prosecution of a peaceful 80-year-old pro-life counselor.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge James Emanuel (“Jeb”) Boasberg denied Richard Retta’s petition to have federal charges dismissed. The Obama administration alleges that Retta violated the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act in January 2011 by standing in front of a woman at a D.C. abortion mill, blocking the entrance. The federal complaint states she was only able to enter the facility with the “extraordinary assistance” of two employees. As she entered, Retta told her, “Don’t let them kill your baby.”

The government is seeking a permanent injunction to prohibit Retta and “his representatives, employees, agents, and any others” from “coming near the clinic Gate,” as well as a $10,000 civil penalty and statutory damages of $5,000 for each of three “victims.”

Retta stated the government did not prove the woman was seeking an abortion and failed to show his motive violated the Clinton-era abortion law. However, Boasberg ruled that defendants need only think women are obtaining an abortion; “allegations that they were in fact doing so, accordingly are not required.”

“If they can’t get us legitimately, they’ll do whatever they can, whatever means they can to succeed,” Peter Shinn, the president of Pro-Life Unity and Cherish Life Ministries, told LifeSiteNews.com.

Retta prints a 22-page training manual instructing volunteers “DO NOT block the woman’s path,” and “Avoid being intimidating in any way.”

Retta, who goes by Dick, is described by the government as a “regular anti-abortion protestor at the Planned Parenthood in Metropolitan, Washington,” and “among the most vocal and aggressive anti-abortion protestors outside the Clinic.”

Retta told LifeSiteNews.com he is far from aggressive. “If I’m down there, and someone is coming in or out [of the door], I always [say], ‘Please don’t let them take their life. Please, we can and will help you. Please, choose life.’”

“I’m sure people in the waiting room hear me when the door is open,” he said. He offers women information about counseling and medical services. He says, unlike Planned Parenthood, he helps post-abortive women.

Retta believes sidewalk counselors have saved 1,400 lives at that facility alone. This year, they saved 140 unborn babies, double last year’s number.

Retta says he has often seen women change their minds about an abortion without any contact with a counselor. “Is she aware I’m out there praying for her, and 2 or 3 others are out there praying for her? In response to our willingness to be there, does the Holy Spirit change people’s hearts?”

He began praying outside the clinic in 1998 and advanced to counseling women in 2001. “I never felt I was suitable for being a sidewalk counselor,” Retta told LifeSiteNews. “I’m too shy, too low-key, too inhibited.” He continues his counseling and prayer ministry despite having had quadruple bypass surgery and two knee replacements.

The federal government’s aggressive prosecution is a stark contrast from the way prosecutors dealt with a woman Retta says pepper sprayed him last July, just before being informed of the FACE charges. Retta said a judge let the woman go on condition on good behavior. Retta and his lawyer are considering a civil lawsuit.

The Justice Department’s new priorities won the approval of officials in the abortion industry. “There’s been a substantial difference between this administration and the one immediately prior,” Ellen Gertzog, director of security for Planned Parenthood, told NPR

“Obviously there is collusion between Planned Parenthood and the federal government,” Shinn told LifeSiteNews. “Someone at Planned Parenthood called someone they knew in the Justice Department, and maybe it was Holder himself.”

As we reflect on MLK Jr. day, I say : ‘They, too, America!’

by Bryan Kemper Mon Jan 16 19:28 EST Comments (5)

Bryan Kemper

January 16, 2012 (BryanKemper.com) - Langston Hughes wrote a poem entitled, “I, Too” in which he dreamed of a day when African Americans would not be shunned. This simple poem speaks volumes about personhood and the struggle to attain equality.

Corrie Ten Boom wrote a book entitled, “The Hiding Place” in which she talked about her days in a concentration camp. She was not Jewish; she was imprisoned and tortured for hiding Jews in her home because she believed they were equal human persons.

Rosa Parks sat down and refused to get up a seat she was told she had no right to sit in. She decided that she was no longer going to be told that she was less human than anyone else on that bus.

Anne Frank wrote in her diary, “I don’t think of all the misery but of the beauty that still remains” – this coming from a young woman having to live in a hidden apartment for two years because she was declared a non–human person.

Martin Luther King, Jr. cried out, “I have a dream.” He believed in a world where men were not looked at as black or white, but as men. He believed we could live as equal human persons and destroy the prejudices that plagued mankind.

What do all these people have in common?

Some may say oppression. Oppression is certainly a word that can be used to describe all of their lives. Can you imagine yourself as a young girl like Anne Frank living in a small hidden apartment for two years, never allowed to leave for fear of certain death?

Some may say determination. Langston Hughes was determined to see a day when our African American brothers would not be seen as less than any other American.

Some may say courage. I can’t imagine the courage it took for Corrie Ten Boom to risk her own life and freedom for total strangers. She endured years of torture and even found a way to thank God for her bunk being infested with fleas, knowing it saved her from abuse.

Some may say resolve. Oh, to see the resolve in the face of Rosa Parks on the bus that day! It would be amazing to see her claim her spot as an equal human person and refuse to be dehumanized.

Some may say passion. Passion is one of the best words you can use to describe Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. When you hear his speech you can’t help but be moved.

While all of these words are truly things these great humans had in common, there is one other thing that makes them stand out from others who have been dehumanized: their voice. They all had a voice and were able to use that voice to cry out for their lives, their freedom and their humanity. A voice is something that thousands of innocent people every day in America will never have.

Can you imagine if a child in the womb could write a poem about how one day he too would be called an American?

Can you imagine if babies that were not going to be killed by abortion could hide others that were scheduled for death?

Can you imagine if when the abortionist tried to kill a young little girl she was able to sit down in the womb with resolve and say, “I will not be killed”?

Can you imagine the speech a young child would give proclaiming the day all innocent pre-born children are counted as human?

While we know these things are impossible for the children in the womb to accomplish, they are not impossible for us. We do have a voice; we now need to find the courage, determination, resolve and passion to fight against the oppression of innocent children.

Some may say, “How dare you compare abortion with the holocaust or oppression of African Americans!” I say how dare we not. How dare we look back at some of the most brutal, inhumane and dehumanizing acts in history and not also include the killing of innocent babies?

We recently ushered in a new era in America. With the election of Barack Obama to the Presidency, we saw something many people believed would not happen in their lifetime. We witnessed something that we should all be proud of regardless of our political views. America took one more step towards equality and wiping out racial prejudices.

So many people do not believe they will see the killing of innocent children stop in their lifetime either. So many people have accepted the abortion holocaust as status quo. I refuse to accept or believe that we cannot defeat this evil.

It is time, my friends, to adopt the words that describe these great humans I wrote about. It is time to believe that we will usher in an era where pre-born children are considered full human persons. It is time to use our voices to proclaim life and freedom for the thousands of our brothers and sisters who die needlessly every day.

We are entering into the 40th year of decriminalized child killing in America, a full generation of the bloodiest genocide in history. It is time to put this hateful chapter in the history books and usher in a culture of life.

It is time to say: They, Too, America.

Majority of Argentinean legislators say they favor decriminalizing abortion: poll

by Matthew Hoffman, Latin America Correspondent Mon Jan 16 19:24 EST Comments (3)

January 16, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A majority of legislators in Argentina’s National Congress now say that they support the decriminalization of abortion during the first trimester of pregnancy, according to a poll conducted by the government’s Center for Labor Studies and Investigations (CEIL) and reported by Argentina’s Pagina 12.

The poll, which examined what the pollsters said was a representative sample of about one-third of the National Congress’ 329 members, found that 64 percent support the elimination of penalties for abortion during the first twelve weeks of pregnancy.

It also found that Argentinean legislators favor other anti-life and anti-family policies, including a majority of 52 percent in favor of legislation permitting euthanasia, and 75 percent affirming “gender identity,” a concept that treats Gender Identity Disorder as if it were normal and natural.

Click “like” if you want to end abortion!

The responses given by the legislators belie their religious self-identification. Although 60 percent self-identified as “Catholic,” the majority expressed political positions that are incompatible with Catholic teaching.  In addition to the strong support in favor of abortion depenalization and “gender identity” legislation, 84 percent favored permitting in-vitro fertilization methods and 54 percent favored allowing cryogenic storage of embryos.

Although a strong majority identified as “Catholic” and 46 percent described themselves as “very religious,” eighty-seven percent were against consulting bishops when selecting education ministers, and 77 percent opposed allowing religious organizations to carry out social policies.

Although the government of Argentina officially “supports” the Catholic Church in its constitution, the country has been moving strongly against the Church’s doctrines on life and family issues.

In 2010, Argentina became the first country in Latin America to create homosexual “marriage,” which was approved by the national legislature and the nation’s president, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.

Teen Christian singer: graphic abortion pics moved me to write pro-life song

by Kathleen Gilbert Mon Jan 16 19:07 EST Comments (4)

ORLANDO, Florida, January 16, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - If he “had a dime for every time” someone told him that he looked like Elvis, says Robert Pierre, he’d be “well off.”

Even without the comparison, the 19-year-old singer’s boyish good looks are bound for teenage-girl crush fests. Plus, he has vocal talent serious enough to launch him to a record deal virtually overnight, after one casual home recording was played by a local Christian radio station. Pierre was only in eighth grade at the time.

While such a package could certainly take him places, Pierre, who now sings regularly for his church community, says that his heart is still firmly rooted in the Christian faith that provides the overt inspiration for his songs. And if that wasn’t enough to keep him out of the mainstream, Pierre has joined his voice with the growing numbers of his generation calling for an end to the abortion holocaust, and will make an appearance at the National Pro-Life Youth Rally immediately following the March for Life in Washington, D.C. January 23.

“A great injustice is happening, we can’t look away ... There’s no use pretending that we are unaware,” sings Pierre in “Silent Cry,” a pro-life song on his latest album, “I’m All In.”

“Stand up, it’s time / Listen to their silent cry / Before the dawn of creation they had God’s eye / Now they’re not even given one chance at life. ... Life is a gift / Not choice that we get / No mistake ever made / Made a life to erase,” it continues.

Click “like” if you want to end abortion!

Although he was always against abortion, Pierre told LifeSiteNews.com that the song arose in his heart after a guest at his high school showed his class images of children killed in abortion. His sentiments deepened after a visit to the former Nazi concentration camp at Dachau, where he said it was not the horrors of the slaughter itself, but the indifference of the surrounding communities, that shocked him most.

“I always thought that, had the Germans really known what was going on in those concentration camps, surely they wouldn’t have allowed what happened to have happened,” said Pierre, who said he became “horrified, standing in there and seeing just outside the walls and the barbed wire, were houses, communities, neighborhoods. …

“These people saw the smokestacks, could smell the smell every day, and said nothing.”

He says he felt the pressure to make sure he would not join those communities in turning a blind eye to injustice, and the lies that surround it. “It’s something I can’t stay silent about. ... It’s troubling knowing that my generation is being lied to,” he said, criticizing those who are “trying to portray sex as something that’s safe and fun ... [that] there’s a safe way out of it. I want to be part of revealing the truth.”

Pierre will join other entertainers and pro-life leaders, including Lila Rose and David Bereit of 40 Days for Life, at the 2nd annual National Pro-Life Youth Rally, which will take place near Union Station. (Click here for directions.)

Leaders at the rally will also be giving out free pro-life materials and unveiling a pro-life election effort.
