KYOTO ENVIRONMENTAL AGREEMENT HARBOURS TROUBLE
KYOTO, Japan, Dec 16 (LSN) - Pro-life attendees as the Kyoto Convention on Climate Change, have voiced concerns over possible anti-life policies in the final document. The American Life League (ALL) reported on December 1 that some attendees suggest fears of "global warming" may be used to justify "reducing world population-using abortion, harmful birth control chemicals and sterilization -- to 'solve' the alleged climatological problems."
Pro-life researcher Susan Roylance points out that the reason this document is so dangerous is because, for the first time, the UN will be establishing legal regulations (based on "emissions budgets") which a nation must live within. She says, "The specific purpose of the protocol is to establish a legal mechanism to require countries to comply with these established budgets. Because this whole focus is on emissions caused by people (the only emissions which can be controlled) the population of a country is a direct corollary to the budget. If the country has too many people-caused emissions, one of the easiest ways to reduce the emissions is to reduce the number of people."
Population researcher Robert L. Sassone notes that "In the case of global warming, the UN's fears are based on faulty research." He says three different methods of measurement show no increase in global temperature. The one method that does indicate warming is flawed, according to Mr. Sassone. He notes that the faulty method uses projections based on temperatures recorded in urban areas, which do not reflect global temperature overall. Mr. Sassone says temperatures in undeveloped rural areas-and the planet as a whole-have remained constant.
Experts fear that ratification of the treaty may cause runaway inflation and reduce per capita income by more than $500 (US). It could also cost more than a million jobs in the US, and give the UN vast authority over many elements of life. Terrance Corcoran, a columnist for The Globe and Mail, wrote that the Kyoto document "is likely to stand as a reference document for major government intervention." "In the name of climate change, the signing nations have agreed to manage just about every aspect of human activity," he says. Corcoran foresees the collecting of information on "all human contribution (sic) to greenhouse gas emissions," followed by the "attempt to monitor, control, prescribe and allocate resources in all sectors of the economy." Thus individual freedom and national sovereignty will be severely threatened.
