GOVERNMENT SAYS LEAVE BABIES TO DIE
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Nov 3 (LSN) - South Africa's Department of Health issued guidelines stating that failed abortions (babies born alive)should be left to die. The guidelines sent to all major hospitals in March of this year told medical practitioners that when performing abortions, ''if an infant is born who gasps for breath, it is advised that the foetus does not receive any resuscitation measures''.
The release of the document comes just weeks after abortion on demand for pregnancies up to 12 weeks formally came into play, following last year's legislation. Health workers have already warned that up to 50% of their members across the country are refusing to take part, while hospitals that are offering the "service" have been hampered by a lack of staff, training and equipment.
Doctors across the country expressed horror at the directives. One female doctor in KwaZulu-Natal, who did not want to be named said, ''No way will I stand by and do nothing to resuscitate a child. It is impossible and we should not be put in such a position''.
POLITICAL PRO-LIFE HERO IN AMERICA
WASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., has courageously refused to allow moneys that flow into foreign aid programs to be given to international family planning groups that promote or provide abortions such as International Planned Parenthood. Chris, the 44-year-old devout Roman Catholic, quit his job in 1976 to become executive director of the New Jersey Right to Life Committee. "I haven't changed my views one scintilla since then,'' he said.
Smith's impressive pro-life crusading deserve mention and thanks. He refused to endorse the re-election bid of fellow New Jersey Republican Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, who is pro-abortion.
Last year, he angered House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., by supporting an anti-abortion GOP challenger to Rep. Sue Kelly, R-N.Y., who is pro-abortion.
Smith, who calls Clinton the ''abortion president'' and rebuked Vice-President Al Gore earlier this month for suggesting abortion and population control was the answer to the global warming problem.
He has pushed for a $5,000 adoption tax credit.
He is one of the leaders in the annual battle to deprive China of its most-favored-nation trade status because of its forced abortion.
In September, he caused a delay in the tribute to Mother Theresa trying to promote language noting her staunch opposition to abortion.
