SEX THERAPIST CALLS FOR MANDATED SEX ED GUIDELINES

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

OTTAWA (LSN) - Sue McGarvie, host of the vulgar radio call-in show, Sex With Sue, is also a member of the Sex Therapy Council of Canada. McGarvie has lobbied the provincial and federal governments for a task force to look at the quality of sex education programs across the country and offer universal guidelines for schools, health clinics and parents.

Her tasteless and graphic radio replies to sex-related questions from teens allude to the type of sex "education" she feels is necessary. According to McGarvie, sex-ed should begin from day one in kindergarten. Considering herself infallibly enlightened, she pontificated, "We need to find out what works, what doesn't work and to come up with a universal program that is mandated in every school in every city in this country. Period. End of discussion."

BOSTON (CWN) - Dr. Joseph R. Stanton, the "patriarch of the pro-life movement in Massachusetts," died on Tuesday at 77 years old after years of fighting for the right to life, despite his own lifelong battle with polio.

Dr. Stanton founded Massachusetts Citizens for Life and the Value of Life Committee of Massachusetts and was chairman of the Coalition for Responsible Government. In his 70s and hobbled by crutches, he joined Operation Rescue and still later organized a drive for an updated version of the Hippocratic Oath.

DISSIDENT CATHOLIC GROUP COMES UP SHORT

CANADA (LSN) - "Catholics of Vision: Canada" is a nominally Roman Catholic group calling for liberal changes in Church doctrine, including changing attitudes towards contraception and abortion. The group has fallen far short of its goal to get 100,000 signatures on a petition calling for changes in the Church. In a message to the Canadian bishops, they said, "Any contention that the 5,910 responses indicate minimal support for the substance of the statement must be rejected."

CHRISTIAN/PROLIFE VICTORY FOR TRINITY WESTERN UNIVERSITY

VANCOUVER (LSN) - B.C. Supreme Court Justice W.H. Davies has ordered the BC College of Teachers to approve Trinity Western University's application for accreditation of its teacher education program. Last summer, The BC College of Teachers voted 17-1 to refuse certification to TWU teacher graduates unless they took their final year at Simon Fraser University due to Trinity's community standards document. When applying to Trinity, all students must pledge that they will not engage in homosexual acts or premarital sex, or have an abortion, a requirement alien to the current values of what Christians call "the world," and deeply offensive to opponents of orthodox Christianity.

No criticism of the quality of teacher training offered at TWU was cited--only the student pledge. Forbidding homosexual activity, said the teachers' governing body, was an act of intolerance and discrimination.
