NEW DELHI, Dec 15 (LSN) Christians in India have been trying to raise awareness lately about growing persecution by Hindu extremists and the national government. Recently political leaders have blamed Christians for the rape of four nuns last September 23rd in Jhabua. Zenit news reports that Hindu extremists are trying to force Christian schools to study the Hindu scriptures and that these efforts are supported by the ruling government.

Catholic Archbishop George Anathil of Indore denounced the rape allegations in a letter to the Indian government dated October 27, reported Zenit.

PEGGY'S COVE, Nova Scotia, Dec 15 (LSN) In the wake of the recent airplane disaster in Peggy's Cove, the federal government is facing allegations that it used the tragedy as a public relations stunt.

Rev. Carolyn Nicholson, a United Church minister invited to speak and pray at the memorial service for victims of the crash claims to have been told that she could not refer to Christ in her prayer or read from the New Testament, this despite the fact that the Native Indian, Jewish and Muslim representatives were granted the freedom to read from their holy books.

Rev. Nicholson has written to the Prime Minister's office requesting an explanation for the incident. Calgary Sun editor, Licia Corbella, writing this week about the incident, asked "Was this a service designed to honour the dead ... or was this a public relations stunt for the prime minister to show what a multicultural and tolerant country Canada is?"

She added: "The only religious representatives who should have been given the opportunity to minister and offer prayers were ones who had people of those faiths aboard the doomed plane. From my research, it doesn't appear that any aboriginal Canadians were aboard that flight. And simply judging by the names of the deceased, it appears that the vast majority of those who perished were Europeans who, for the most part are Christian."
