ONTARIO TORIES DISCUSS ABORTION

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

COLLINGWOOD, Ont., Feb 26 (LSN) - Ontario Conservatives began a caucus meeting Wednesday wherein some backbench MPP's raised the abortion issue. As reported on Tuesday, Tory MPP Frank Klees called for his party to focus more on the conservative social policies now that the fiscal policies are mostly dealt with. Suggestions by Klees would require doctors to inform the parents of girls under 16 before committing an abortion. He also advocates conscience legislation that would permit health care workers to refuse to take part in abortion because of religious or moral objections without being punished. However, there is a concern among some members of the Tory caucus that the suggestions will go nowhere. Some suggest that Harris's moves are dictated by his "group of seven", -- a group of advisors responsible for the Common Sense Revolution -- rather than his elected colleagues. One of Harris' former top advisors, and member of the 'group of seven' was Jaime Watt, a self-proclaimed homosexual. Watt eventually resigned from his advising post when his criminal past came to the fore (he was convicted of fraud of over $19,000). Interestingly, the Toronto Star revealed that the Harris government tried to quietly re-hire Watt but when their maneuvers were discovered Watt resigned for a second time.

TORONTO, Feb 26 (LSN) - CBC news reported yesterday that the families of murder victims Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy have lost a bid to prevent the public from ever seeing in open court videotapes of the teens being assaulted by sex killer Paul Bernardo and his ex-wife Karla Homolka. According to the report Justice Michael Moldaver of the Ontario Court of Appeal "rejected the families' contention that, by definition, coerced and child pornography are not constitutionally protected as forms of expression." He ruled that any order restricting access should be left to the discretion of the judge conducting the proceeding.

Reports indicate that the Ministry agreed to the request within 48 hours. The vote to pass the resolution was unanimous, including the votes of the governing party. The Health Ministry must conduct scientific examinations on the drug before it can be distributed. In Spain abortions are permitted only when there is risk of harm to the mother's health.

PERU STERILIZATION CAMPAIGN EXPOSED

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb 26 (LSN) - On Tuesday the Population Research Institute (PRI) issued a press release exposing a horrendous campaign to sterilize women in Peru. In a program linked to the US Agency for International Development, Ministry of Health workers are "working in house to house campaigns, using threats, offering bribes of food and clothing" to force sterilization on poor women. Avelina Nolberto and Victoria Espinoza, victims of the vicious sterilization push arrived in the US to recount their tragedies and their reports are confirmed by Dr. Hector Chuchon, head of the Peruvian medical federation in three of Peru's poorest regions. Investigations into Peru's sterilization program have found: "Women sterilized without their knowledge or consent. Government documents setting sterilization quotas. Campaign-related deaths from unhygienic conditions and/or medical malpractice. Hush money offered to families of victims." Speaking at a joint press conference sponsored by the Population Research Institute and Concerned Women for America Steven Mosher, president of Population Research Institute, said, "the sterilization campaign is public knowledge in Peru." "Newspapers have published stories about it, the national Public Defender's office has denounced it. Only the Presidential Palace and Ministry of Health deny the campaign's existence," said Mosher.
