LIBERAL REFORM PARTY ORGANIZER'S POSITION IN JEOPARDY

PETERBOROUGH, Ontario, July 10 (LSN) - On Tuesday, the Peterborough Examiner revealed in an interview with Reform Party Eastern Ontario organizer Nancy Branscombe that she had lied on CBC Newsworld's "On The Line" program calling herself "Betty from London" and a Tory party member. The incident is a national embarrassment for the Reform Party which has rightly criticized former Conservative Paul Reitsma for issuing letters to the editor under false names. It also pre-empts criticism of the news which broke yesterday that a high-level assistant to NDP MPP Evelyn Gillespie also wrote letters to editors under false names to promote the NDP.

Nancy Branscombe was awarded top positions in the Reform Party as Reform Party Eastern Ontario organizer and in August the national Reform leadership in Calgary chose her to be the executive director of an important "unite-the-right" initiative to increase its support in Ontario. Despite her elevated stature in the party, Branscombe doesn't fit the Reform conservative mold. On a pro-life questionnaire distributed by Campaign Life Coalition, Branscombe revealed her social leftism in that she considers herself to be pro-choice, that she does not oppose the sale of the very controversial abortion drug RU-486, and that she supports legalized doctor-assisted suicide.

Recently, Reform Party policy has been moving towards a more definite small "c" conservative stance on social issues. Both Paul Reitsma and Dean Schneider, the NDP high-level assistant, were forced to resign from their respective parties for falsifying their identities in the media. Will Nancy Branscombe be held accountable?
