UN ENFORCEMENT OF "WOMEN’S RIGHTS" IN THE WORKS
UNITED NATIONS, Mar 9 (LSN) - Susan Roylance, founder of United Families International released a report today outlining a UN plan for the enforcement of what the UN considers "women's rights" (which includes unfettered access to abortion). Her report centers around the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), an international treaty which, Roylance warns, may soon be up for ratification by the U.S. Senate. Roylance notes that the U.S. Delegation to the UN announced that "March 11th would be the kick-off date for an extensive campaign to educate U.S. Senators to achieve their support for the ratification of CEDAW."
Roylance warns that the UN is now working on the final wording of an "Optional Protocol" on CEDAW. According to her report, "this Optional Protocol would be another international treaty, which would establish a legal body within the UN to enforce the provisions of the CEDAW."
Alarmingly, "this Committee would have the power of a court, to require nations to bring all of their laws in compliance with CEDAW, once the Optional Protocol is ratified. The greatest danger of the Optional Protocol is the power of this second international treaty to overturn national sovereignty in areas of family and social law."
Thus, "in addition to establishing a mechanism for complaint and enforcement against a nation who has violated the established 'rights' of women, the Optional Protocol would give the new legal committee the power to enforce 'obligations' of a nation. As defined by the CEDAW Committee, this would include the obligations of 'any person, organization or enterprise' within the nation which has signed CEDAW." Please note that CEDAW wants to enforce compliance to its dictates even on individuals.
ABORTION REASON FOR CLOSURE OF ONTARIO CATHOLIC HOSPITALS?
KINGSTON, Mar 9 (LSN) - Last week, the Ontario hospital restructuring committee called for the closure of Kingston's Hotel Dieu and St. Mary's Catholic hospitals, alluding to abortion as the reason for the selection of the Catholic sites for closures. However, the Catholic Health Association (CHA) of Ontario will contest the ruling. The commission plans to allow the Sisters of Providence who run St. Mary's to retain the governance of the care of long-term chronic and psychiatric patients. The Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph who own and operate Hotel Dieu would be stripped of governing powers and be asked to manage the ambulatory care of patients.
The changes are characteristic of most communities visited by the restructuring committee. Religious hospitals have been limited to areas of long-term care, mental health and ambulatory care. Pediatric and obstetric services, for which religious hosptials are especially suited, are regularly withdrawn from those hospitals. Commission CEO Mark Rochon indicated that the reason for the maneuvering was abortion, saying that the commission considers "women's health important in all communities" and that the commission would "ensure all services are provided."
CHA president Ron Marr noted that the CHA would be fighting the closures and the removal of the Sisters from their governing positions. Reacting to the apparent reason for the closures being abortion, Marr told reporters Saturday, "Women's health issues are extremely important
AWARD WINNING PRO-LIFE POLITICIAN ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL
HALIFAX, NS, Mar 9 (LSN) - Canadian pro-life hero and former MP Roseanne Skoke, is once again on the campaign trail seeking to unseat Tory MLA John Hamm for the riding of Pictou Centre in Nova Scotia. Roseanne was last year' s recipient of the Joseph P. Borowski pro- life award for politicians. She was ousted from the federal Liberal party last year by a ferocious campaign of anti-life and anti-family groups when riding redistribution required her to compete for for the party nomination with another Liberal MP.
Roseanne's bid for election is hampered by the 25-year-long Tory reign in the riding. However, Tory support seems to be waning since current MLA and Tory leader John Hamm won the election in 1993 by only 476 votes over the Liberal contender. The riding had 13,382 eligible voters in 1993
PRO-LIFE SHERIFF BACK IN THE NEWS
FORT MYERS, Fla., Mar 9 (LSN) - Sheriff John McDougall of Lee County, who warmed the hearts of pro-lifers across the continent last year with his gallant stand in favour of pro-life picketers, is once again the subject of attention in today's New York Times. The pro- abortion National Organization of Women is using January's bombing of the Alabama abortuary as an opportunity to attack the good sheriff. However, his outstanding record of service and his beloved citizens defend their chief of police from all attacks.
Last December, abortionist Ali Azima asked Sheriff McDougall for police action against pro- life picketers of his abortuary claiming he was being "stalked" over the previous month by "barbarians". The sheriff responded with a letter which assured Azima that the police would carry out their duty to protect "even a baby killer like yourself." In his letter he also promised to guard the rights of those "who wish to protect the misguided mothers who come to your clinic of death."
A Roman Catholic and former seminarian, John McDougall proudly displays a picture of his parish priest giving a Lee County sheriff's badge to Pope John Paul II at an audience in Rome, making him an honorary deputy sheriff. Sheriff McDougal told reporters, "I'm in the business of protecting people and it's frustrating that I can't protect these little babies: If I would not speak up I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror. You have to speak out on social ills." He has been involved in the pro-life movement for 25 years attending rallies, and sheltering new mothers in his home. He and his wife Gloria once made funeral arrangements for babies slain at Azima's abortuary after finding them in a garbage bin behind the Fort Myers abortion mill.
John McDougall has the respect and admiration of the residents who have elected him sheriff three times, the last time with 70 per cent of the vote who seem ready to re-elect him for another 4 year term in the year 2000.
LADIES PROTEST PRESIDENT’S LACK OF CHARACTER
WASHINGTON, Mar 9 (LSN) - Last Thursday, hundreds of women gathered on the steps of the federal courthouse where hearings on President Clinton's sex scandal were underway. Mrs. Bonnie Perry, organizer of the "Character Does Count" rally, told reporters that the group came together to challenge the notion that America doesn't care about morality in leadership.
The ladies sang "God Bless America" and recited the Pledge of Allegiance and also chanted slogans like "Hey, hey, ho, ho! Perjury has got to go!" and "Two, four, six, eight! Married people shouldn't date!" Mrs. Perry announced to the lively crowd, "We demand that our leaders be trustworthy," and received applause, noting that Clinton could learn a lesson from kindergarten. "That's where we learn to tell the truth, obey the rules, set a good example, do the right thing and keep our promise."
