UN PUSHES TO OUTLAW SPANKING
NEW YORK, Mar 3 (LSN) - In the recently released report of the 17th session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the UN recommends criminalizing parents who use spanking as a form of discipline. Addressing reports from Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, "the Committee expresses its concern about the lack of prohibition in local legislation of the use of corporal punishment, however light, at home." The Committee concluded that this contravenes the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and recommended that governments take legislative action to ban corporal punishment by parents where such punishment is still legal.
