ICC RELUCTANTLY ALLOWS PRIESTS CONFESSION SECRECY

UNITED NATIONS, Aug 18 (LSN) - After intense negotiations by the Vatican, the proposed International Criminal Court has conceded Catholic priests their traditional immunity from having to reveal information received in confessions. Much to the chagrin of Canada which proposed the violation of the ancient Catholic sacramental "seal" of confession and over the objections of France, the ICC draft document now includes the phrase: "The court shall recognise as privileged the communications made in the context of a sacred confession when it is an integral part of the practice of that religion."
