DISASTROUS CHINESE DEMOGRAPHICS LEADING TO POLICY CHANGE

HONG KONG, Nov 2 (LSN.ca) - Fides, the international news agency of the Vatican reported last week that the Chinese government is rethinking its one-child policy due to the resulting demographic imbalance. Fides cites an unnamed Chinese government official who notes that the policy will be widened to allow two children and other changes are pending within three years.
Fides reported that "in the year 2000, 70 million men aged 25-49 will have to remain bachelors." The phenomenon has led to the selling of wives, with over 19,000 cases examined and more than 60,000 people involved and arrested in 1999. In Taiwan, population statistics from 1998 indicate a disastrously low birthrate of 0.6% with even population control zealots wanting to raise it to at minimum 1.3%.
