ALBERTA WARNS SCHOOLS ABOUT UNICEF CHILD RIGHTS VOTE
EDMONTON, Nov 10 (LSN.ca) - Dr. Lyle Oberg, the Alberta Minister of Learning sent a letter to the province's school boards last week warning them to get parental permission before children are made to participate in the UNICEF sponsored National Election on the Rights of Youth. The National Post reports that in his letter, Oberg writes: "I would strongly encourage you to ensure that parents provide written consent before their children participate and that they be informed about the context, time and place of the election so that parents who object can withdraw their children from participating."
Oberg notes that his office has been bombarded with phone calls from parents concerned that their children are being used in this politicized activity devoid of educational value.
