CANADIAN PHYSICIANS FOR LIFE ON MORNING AFTER PILL
OTTAWA, Apr 28 (LSN.ca) - Canadian Physicians for Life, a non-profit, charitable organization of Canadian physicians dedicated to life, noted in a recent press release that "the common description of the MAP [morning after pill] as emergency contraception fails to accurately describe its abortifacient action and is misleading the public."
"The confusion is aggravated," they continue, "by the current attempt to re-define pregnancy as occurring after implantation." The good doctors warn that "the potential long-term impact of these high hormone doses, especially when used repeatedly, is worrisome and not being adequately addressed." They warn further that making the drugs available without a doctor's prescription "puts women and girls at higher risk for disease and sexual health problems."
They argue that the principle of the professional association allowing doctors to refuse to participate in abortion should "also apply to the prescription of abortifacients" such as the MAP. Furthermore they note that, in the interest of informed decision making, the requirement of disclosure to patients of personal morality that would influence recommendation or practice of medical procedures should be extended to pro-abortion just as it is expected of pro-life doctors. "Doctors who rank unborn human lives as disposable and who believe that abortion does not cause unacceptable harm to women should be expected to inform the patient of this bias during the counselling process.
