FIRST VOTE ON SAME-SEX BILL TODAY
OTTAWA, Feb 21 (LSN.ca) -The Liberal government has invoked closure on Bill C-23 today, requiring the first vote on the Bill late in the day. Watch LifeSite for detailed coverage and a link to check the vote of your MP on this crucial legislation.
Pro-family groups are encouraging supporters to contact their MP's on the issue as soon as possible. Although only 4 hours and 22 minutes of debate has occurred, the vote on closure will take place today passed (121-73) in spite of vehement opposition. The House will vote on Second Reading of Bill C-23 at 6:30 pm (Eastern).
Meanwhile, despite the short time allowed for the bill's deliberation, the Liberal and Progressive Conservative parties are showing division over the issue with Reform against the bill and the NDP and Block in support. LifeSite reported last week that Liberal MP John McKay stood up in the House to present his opposition to the bill. On the Tory side, MP Elsie Wayne has clashed with leader Joe Clark and demanded a free vote for the Tory caucus. Wayne is strongly opposed to the Liberal bill. At least one other Tory MP will also be voting against it.

NEW BC PREMIER NO FRIEND OF LIFE OR FAMILY
VANCOUVER, Feb 21 (LSN.ca) - Ujjal Dosanjh, went from being British Columbia's attorney general to the province's premier-elect Sunday by winning the New Democratic Party leadership race in a single ballot. However the change in command will likely not alter the anti-life and anti-family reputation B.C. has earned under New Democrat rule.
BC Report has said about Dosanjh that "[h]e is all in favour of allowing pro-homosexual literature into kindergarten, but wants restrictions on pro-life prayer near abortion clinics." LifeSite coverage over the years bears out the accuracy of this observation.
In September 1997, LifeSite reported that Dosanjh called on the Federal Parliament to open the Canadian debate on euthanasia after his friend Dr. Thakore was "assisted" in his suicide by Jack Kevorkian. In February, 1998 LifeSite reported that Dosanjh brought in legislation allowing homosexual couples custody and access to children.

HOMOSEXUAL ACTIVISTS TARGET DR. LAURA
NEW YORK, Feb 21 (LSN.ca) - The highly popular radio show host, Dr. Laura Schlesinger, is once again the target of homosexual activists. Only a week after it was published that she had been sent death threats for her pro-family stance, EGALE (Equality for Gays and Lesbians Everywhere) and other such groups have commenced a very aggressive email campaign to stop Dr. Laura's television show from getting off the ground.
Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) met last week with Paramount Television, which is developing a syndicated TV show with Dr. Laura set to launch in the fall. The groups urges homosexuals to "email Paramount now and demand that Dr. Laura be dropped." They are also asking each person to forward the EGALE message against Dr. Laura to 10 friends.

Gary Bauer's endorsement of John McCain for president last Wednesday came under criticism by his close friends. In response to the endorsement, Dr. James Dobson issued a statement on February 17 in which he "expressed disagreement" with Bauer's endorsement of McCain since he has said he wants to change the Republican Party Platform to include exceptions for rape and incest. McCain has refused to commit to nominating Supreme Court Justices or federal judges who are pro-life, and has refused to commit to choosing a pro-life running mate. (RNC/Life)
