STUDY: ASSISTED SUICIDE HAS FREQUENT MISHAPS
BOSTON, Feb 24 (LSN.ca) - A Dutch study published in Thursday's edition of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) has found that assisted suicide does not go smoothly for about 1 in 5 patients. The findings shatter the "death with dignity" mantra of an easy and peaceful death.

ORGAN TRANSPLANTS LEADING TO CHAOS
DUBLIN, Feb 24 (LSN.ca) - Organ transplant operations, many still fraught with uncertainty over ethics around brain death, are so popular that huge waiting lists, organ purchasing, and illegal organ harvesting have become commonplace. The frenzy has caused governments the world over to aggressively promote organ donation and has even led to serious allegations of forced organ donation.
The burgeoning black market trade in organs was highlighted recently by the Chinese sale of the organs of prisoners. Recent revelations in Ireland and England show that often without parental consent, hospitals have harvested organs from children who have died in hospital.
This month the Irish government is investigating at least two hospitals in Ireland for allegedly harvesting organs from children without parental consent and giving the organs (pituitary glands) to pharmaceutical companies. Irish news has reported that the pharmaceutical company Pharmacia & Upjohn has confirmed that it had removed glands from dead children and adults in Irish hospitals for 11 years, until 1985. A parents' group is calling for the investigation to be widened to include all hospitals. The group says it has received over 2,000 complaints about the removal of organs from children and adults during post-mortem examinations, without the permission of next of kin.
Professor John Harris, an international authority on bioethics from Manchester University and a former member of the British Medical Association ethics committee suggested bodies of the dead should become public property so they can be used to harvest organs. He also called for laws to allow people to sell live organs.
This appears to be just one more of many disturbing developments, such as the now exposed common selling of aborted baby body parts and creation of live embryos for experimentation, that have resulted from the legalization of abortion a few decades ago. The abortion mentality views a human body and its parts as a commodity, possession or public policy item to be disposed of or exploited at someone's will.

CONDEMNED ABORTION MILL BUSES WOMEN TO UNLICENCED CENTER
NEW YORK, Feb 24 (LSN.ca) - Choices Women's Medical Center abortuary, while it faces a temporary ban on its right to abort babies, is busing women to other abortion mills, even unlicensed ones. Writing in the New York Post on Sunday, Steve Dunleavy reports that "hundreds" of women are "shipped off like cattle" in a bus called the "Happiness Bus." Dunleavy notes that last Saturday, the bus dropped "about 40 women, poor souls, in a most unhappy state of trauma" off at an unlicensed abortion mill in Jackson Heights.
The medical director at Choices , Dr. Alan Zarkin, was suspended after it was discovered that he had carved his initials into a patient's stomach following a cesaerean section. Subsequently, the abortuary has been temporarily shut down by the Health Department after an investigation revealed breach of health and safety regulations.

ABORTED BABY TISSUE USED COMMONLY IN HOSPITAL TESTS
Hospitals Consider Abandoning Old Test For Less Objectionable One
OMAHA, Neb., Feb 24 (LSN.ca) - Two hospitals in Omaha are reconsidering the use of a diagnostic test for viral identification after it was discovered that the test uses cells from aborted babies. The "MRC-5", a test often used on children, has been in use for over 30 years, however the origin of the fetal tissue used in the test is not widely known. Experts maintain that there are ethically acceptable alternatives to that test.

A petition to have Parliament withdraw Bill C-23, affirm the opposite-sex definition of marriage in legislation, and ensure that marriage is recognized as a unique institution is available from LifeSite on request.
The Washington Times report last week that French Parliamentarian Madame Christine Boutin has come to America to find support for her pro-life efforts. A very provocative woman in France's permissive society, she recently sent 100,000 Frenchmen to the streets of Paris to fight against a bill allowing homosexual marriage. Also, she has founded a pro-life group that has already attracted 20,000 members. As though that wasn't enough to shake up her countrymen, this grandmother of two is planning to run for president. http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/houseed3-20000219.htm
A study published in the Feb. 17 issue of the academic journal, Nature, contains new data bringing severe doubt to the theory that humans are responsible for global warming. By measuring the temperature of the earth at various depths, Henry N. Pollack of the University of Michigan and other researchers have been able to more accurately chart patterns in climate change farther back than the 19th century - heretofore the earliest date for reliable measurements of temperature. Global warming has been used as one of the excuses for international de-population policies and increasing energy prices. http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/housed3-20000222.htm
