CANADIAN POLICE ISSUE WARRANT FOR ARREST OF JAMES KOPP

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

OTTAWA, Jan 26 (LSN.ca) - A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued Monday by the Ontario Provincial Police against James Kopp who has been charged with the 1995 non-fatal shooting of Ontario abortionist Hugh Short. Kopp was charged with murder by US authorities last year in the death of abortionist Barnett Slepian and was placed on the FBI's ten most wanted list. The OPP claim that evidence points to Kopp as the guilty party in their case but they are refusing to reveal the nature of their evidence.

The National Post reported yesterday that public and private rewards for information leading to Kopp's arrest total over $500,000. Despite the as yet secret "evidence" supposedly linking Kopp to the shootings, US pro-lifers who were well acquainted with Kopp don't believe he is guilty.

PENSION WATCHERS WARN CANADIAN PENSION AND HEALTH IN TROUBLE

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

TORONTO, Jan 26 (LSN.ca) More warnings about Canada's demographic crisis have surfaced with a report released yesterday by Canada's corporate and public sector pension plan sponsors and the professional firms that advise them. They warned that "a demographic time bomb threatens Canada's public and private retirement plans." The Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM) said that "without major changes over the next few years, the combined forces of the retirement of the Boomer generation, rising life expectancies and falling birth rates will seriously strain -- and could rupture -- our retirement and health care systems by 2030." The report explains: "that is when all Boomers will be at least 65-years-old, and there are expected to be just two active workers for each retiree. That ratio is now 4-to-1."

The ACPM report -- Dependence or Self-Reliance: Which Way for Canada's Retirement Income System? -- was prepared by a volunteer task force of concerned retirement finance experts. The report calls for national debate on measures to ensure that future retirees can live comfortably while future workers are not unfairly burdened. Without well thought-out changes, Canada will have a large number of dependent seniors by 2030 whose support will require large tax bills for future generations.

Ten recommendations listed in the ACPM press release involve increasing contributions, and allowing for more private coverage but fail to address the heart of the issue, that Canadians must abandon their anti-natalist mentality and begin again to welcome children as a blessing to couples and the nation rather than a burden.

CANADIAN LABOUR CONGRESS RECEIVES UN NGO ACCREDITATION

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

UNITED NATIONS, Jan 26 (LSN.ca) - The Canadian Labour Congress was granted special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations on Monday. The Congress has used its position in Canada to promote homosexuality and abortion and is expected to use its position at the UN to the same ends.

Last week LifeSite reported that the Congress launched a campaign to raise awareness in the workplace of "gay and lesbian rights." An official Congress document called "End the Violence Against Women" catalogues the group's support for abortion, arguing that "when the federal government attempts to turn back the clock and impose restrictive abortion laws on women, death and injury are the inevitable result." The Congress is the national voice of the labour movement, and claims to speak for "all workers and their families, in Canada and beyond." Millions of unionized workers, however, are forced to contribute to political agendas they oppose by way of their union dues which are used by the Congress.

UN CHILD RIGHTS COMMITTEE URGES AGAINST SPANKING

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

UNITED NATIONS, Jan 26 (LSN.ca) - This week, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child took up the compliance reports of Grenada and South Africa on the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The committee urged the countries to ban spanking as a form of discipline, even in the home by parents.

A UN report indicates that the delegation from Grenada apologetically explained the country's retention of spanking. "The delegation stressed again that application of corporal punishment was not the Government's policy, and that in schools, such practice was regulated. However, due to tradition, there had been resistance by their society to eliminate corporal punishment and it was still used as a means to discipline children." The Committee "urged the Grenadian Government to change the public attitude so that the population understood that a child was a subject of rights and a partner in the society. The change of attitude should also stress the respect of the human dignity of children."

The report on South Africa's appearance before the Committee indicated that the country was questioned on the "prohibition of corporal punishment in the family."

UPDATE ON HOMOSEXUAL COUPLE WITH SURROGATE TWINS

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

CHELMSFORD, England, Jan 26 (LSN.ca) - The British government has granted permission for twins to remain in Britain indefinitely. They were born in the United States to a surrogate mother who was carrying them for a homosexual millionaire couple. LifeSite reported last September that Barrie Drewitt, and Tony Barlow caused an uproar in Britain after paying an American company nearly half a million (Canadian) dollars to allow them to have surrogate twins. Each of the men donated sperm, which were combined with donor eggs and implanted in American Rosalind Bellamy. The twins were not granted UK citizenship. British law considers Bellamy and her husband to be the parents of the twins.

The homosexual pair made legal history after the twins were born in December when a US Supreme Court judge decided to allow the two men to be placed on the birth certificates of the children as parents without mention of a mother. The company responsible for arranging the surrogacy agreement, "Growing Generations", is located in Turlock California. It advertises on the Internet as the "first and only gay and lesbian owned surrogacy firm exclusively serving the gay community worldwide."

LIFESITE NEWSBYTES

US Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright distanced herself this week from the anti-UN comments made to the council by Senator Jesse Helms, head of Congress's foreign affairs committee. Mr. Helms did not mince words when he told the international organization that America's commitment to paying it's alleged arrears would be predicated on evidence that the unaccountable, bureaucratic-heavy body was implementing real reforms. Ms. Albright, reflecting the radical internationalist stance of the Clinton Administration, tried to console the UN by assuring her globalist colleagues that "only the president and the executive branch can speak for the United States." http://208.246.212.80/world/news4-01252000.htm

Catholic World News reported yesterday that a young woman from Rio de Janeiro announced that she will rent her womb to conceive a baby for a homosexual couple, sparking a legal battle in Brazil regarding surrogate motherhood as well as the rights of homosexuals to raise a child.

British authorities announced Monday that women who have had their eggs removed and frozen will be able to have them fertilized to conceive babies. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/et?ac=000142592815120&rtmo=022bix2q&atmo=022bix2q&pg=... 1/26/nova26.html

Conservative News Service reported that the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, or SIECUS, a group founded after sex-addicted sexologist Alfred Kinsey, calls on religious communities to bless same-sex marriage and allow homosexual ministers. http://www.conservativenews.org/ViewReligion.asp?Page=\Religion\archive\REL20000...

Britain could soon sever yet another link with its Christian heritage if ministers succeed in scrapping the letters AD from the date. Catholic World News reports that years have been labeled AD (Anno Domini, the Year of Our Lord) or BC (Before Christ) for at least 400 years. But ministers say the labels are inappropriate in a multi-faith country. They are launching a consultation with a view to using the more politically correct CE (Common Era) and BCE (Before Common Era). http://www.ewtn.com/vnews/getstory.asp?number=45899
