HAMILTON, Apr 28 (LSN.ca) - LifeSite has learned that the Most Reverend Anthony Tonnos, bishop of Hamilton, has responded to news reports in the past couple of weeks revealing the abortion, lesbian and other radical objectives of the March of Women 2000. An expose by LifeSite revealed that the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) had donated $110,000 to the March and that the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) and the Catholic Women's League were also endorsing the March.

In an April 19 letter to a concerned member of his diocese, Bishop Tonnos wrote: "The CWL in the Diocese of Hamilton has already notified the national CWL office that our diocese will not be supporting this undertaking. ... I have also expressed my personal dissatisfaction," he continued, "to Development and Peace and to the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops."

The hard evidence against CCODP, as well as subsequent criticism of the social justice agency by bishops, priests and laymen, has generated angry reactions. In an interview with The Report newsmagazine, which covers the LifeSite story in its upcoming May 8 edition, CCODP spokeswoman Mary Corkery claims that her organization is the victim of a "disinformation campaign" by LifeSite News. LifeSite has documented its reports and provided links for all to review to back its story.
