RADICAL FEMINISTS LAUD INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT

UNITED NATIONS, Mar 9 (LSN.ca) – A panel discussion of radical feminists at the UN Beijing +5 Prepcom on Tuesday serves as a warning about the real agenda of the International Criminal Court. Reporting in Vivant!, Theresa Bell notes that Panelist Rhonda Copelon of the International Women’s Human Rights Law Clinic, who also serves as the chief ICC legal strategist for the “Women’s Caucus for Gender Justice,” said the court was a “tool” that will serve as a “model” that she said “can be used to change domestic laws” to conform with feminist goals.

Vivant reports that when asked about obstacles to ratification of the ICC and to ratification of the recently negotiated Optional Protocol to the 1979 Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Copelon replied that “the greatest challenge comes from anti-choice people such as at this [Beijing+5] conference and other UN conferences.” Copelon continued, “This fundamentalist power has kept back the ratification of CEDAW; they are anti-UN, anti-choice and anti-Court.”
