Urgent prayer is requested for an outcome in the US elections that will favour cause of the unborn. A victory for current VP Al Gore would ensure the continuation of the onslaught against the unborn and family.
ANTI-CHRISTIAN BIGOTRY IN CANADA
Toronto Mayor and CBC Slam Christian Faith
TORONTO, Nov 8 (LSN.ca) - Canadian Alliance Leader Stockwell Day's professed Christianity seems to be the catalyst for a rise in anti-Christian bigotry in recent days. Yesterday, in an interview with Sun Media's editorial board, Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman said, "I'm afraid of the Alliance. I don't know what this Alliance group is all about. I'm afraid of some of the things I hear ... This leader scares me - but only from what I've heard, only what I've read ... Maybe it's his religious upbringing, I don't know." The attacks on Day's Christian beliefs are set to continue today with CBC, Canada's public broadcaster, set to release a special tonight called "The Fundamental Day," supposedly examining the leader's religious beliefs. The program will air on CBC's The Magazine.

PRO-ABORTION CANDIDATES USING RELIGION TO PUSH FOR FAITH VOTE
TORONTO, Nov 8 (LSN.ca) - The example set by "Catholic" Prime Minister Jean Chretien and former Prime Minister and PC Leader Joe Clark in calling themselves "good Catholic(s)," while espousing abortion and homosexuality stands contradicting their faith, is being followed by others. A trend is developing where nominal Catholic politicians are abusing their religion by professing that they are members of the faith, while at the same time advocating policies on life and family that disqualify them from membership in the Catholic faith. Only one bishop, Archbishop Marcel Gervais, of Ottawa has thus far spoken out to condemn this travesty.
Currently running for the officially pro-abortion and pro-homosexual marriage New Democratic Party, Parkdale-High Park candidate Paul Schmidt advertises on his election handout that he is Vice Principal at St. Francis Xavier Secondary School and a lector at St. Pius X Parish. It mentions he was also principal of St Paul's Secondary School from 1995-99. When LifeSite called Mr. Schmidt's campaign office to inquire about the incongruity, Joey Schwartz, Schmidt's campaign manager confirmed that Schmidt "fully supports the NDP platform on a woman's right to choose and marriage between partners of the same sex." Asked if Schmidt was concerned about the apparent contradiction between his professed faith and his stands, Schwartz said Schmidt "didn't worry" about it.
On a recent LifeSite commentary, television and radio personality Michael Coren recounted that a PC candidate appeared on his radio show recently claiming that she was "Catholic" and yet expressing radical pro-abortion views (life begins at birth). Pointing out the absurdity of such contradictions, Coren compared the assertions to the statement, "I personally don't believe in killing Jews but if you, as a member of the Waffen SS, want to guard Auschwitz and see Jewish children murdered, I won't stop you.

PRO-LIFERS SENTENCED FOR VANDALISM, PRO-ABORTS RELEASED AFTER ASSAULT
VANCOUVER, Nov 8 (LSN.ca) - Injustice in the BC court system was demonstrated last week as pro-lifers who engaged in non-violent civil disobedience were imprisoned, while charges against pro-abortion feminists who violently assaulted pro-life women were dismissed.
Three BC pro-lifers who engaged in civil disobedience at Vancouver's Everywoman's abortuary last month were sentenced last week. Jen Ziemann, Darren Holubowich and Tim Vincent, members of a group called Just Neighbours, used black paint to cover over a flower mural at the abortion facility "to tell the truth that has been hidden by it's superficial beauty." On the walls they wrote "WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE?", a familiar anti-war song, calling to mind that in both war and abortion society has "legitimized the use of lethal force to serve our own ends." Tim and Jen were sentenced to four months in prison since they had previous convictions for pro-life activities and Darren was given a suspended sentence. All were given two year probation and made to pay restitution.
Meanwhile, on November 2, small claims court Judge Rae dismissed the charges brought by pro-lifers Cecilia von Dehn and Peggy Holland of Concerned Nurses for PRICE (Patients Rights Informed Consent Ethics) against feminists who attacked them. At a pro-abortion feminist meeting the pair were assaulted after taking photos. Mrs. von Dehn was tackled to the floor and punched and kicked in an attempt by the pro-abortion feminists to steal her camera. The judge heard that the assaulters admitted to "a struggle on the floor for the camera," but she was also warned by Clea Parfitt - the lawyer representing the feminists - that this "will have political ramifications if (the) accused especially women and feminist movement (is found) guilty." Incredibly, the judge dismissed the claim, and also the spurious counter-claim brought forward by the assaulters.

LUTHERAN CHURCH LEADER DISCUSSES ABORTION AS ELECTION ISSUE
NEVADA, IA, Nov 8 (LSN.ca) - In preparation for the US election, Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb Executive Director of Lutherans for Life, has written a pamphlet on abortion as an election issue in which he states that abortion "is such a fundamental wrong, that when it comes to voting, a candidate's stance on the issues is irrelevant if he or she favors abortion," since "the voter participates in promoting the agenda of the candidate in an intentional action." He notes that "Abortion is not just an 'election issue.' Abortion is a grave sin. Abortion assaults God's Word of truth about the sanctity of human life and, therefore, assaults the Word Himself Who became flesh that we might have life."
Dr. Lamb notes that abortion supercedes all other issues in an election. He says: "God speaks about salvation but not about how to save the Social Security system. Therefore, Christians may debate about the pros and cons of privatization. God speaks about caring for the elderly but not about Medicare. Therefore, Christians may debate about the best way to help the elderly pay for prescriptions. God speaks differently, however, about destroying innocent human life, and there is no "wiggle" room. He says: "You shall not murder ... Therefore ... a Christian cannot debate the pros and cons of abortion any more than he can debate the pros and cons of rape or stealing or adultery."
NOVA SCOTIA CAVES IN TO COURT PRESSURE TO ALLOW SAME-SEX BENEFITS
ST. JOHN, Nov 8 (LSN.ca) - On Monday, amendments were introduced to several pieces of provincial legislation which allow for pension benefits to be given to same-sex couples. The province will also create a new section in the Vital Statistics Act that will allow individuals to register as domestic partners. As a result, the legal rights and obligations provided under several statutes will apply to the partners and will outline the process for dividing assets should the partnership dissolve. Amendments to the Income Tax Act would ensure that it applies to common-law partners.
The move was blamed on two court decisions - M and H, the Supreme Court of Canada decision which found that spousal support provisions - which apply to married and heterosexual common-law relationships - must be extended to same-sex common-law couples, and Walsh v. Bona, by the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal, which found that the Matrimonial Property Act - which defines a spouse as a married individual - discriminates against common-law spouses and therefore contravenes the Charter.
US NEWS ROUNDUP
Pro-abortion First Lady Hillary Clinton has won election to the US Senate. The race was relatively close with Clinton receiving some 55% support, however, her opponent Rick Lazio did not present himself as pro-life.

From initial poll results it appears that Republicans will remain in control of the House of Representatives, with a majority of members favouring at least some restriction on abortion.
