TORONTO, Oct 3 (LSN.ca) - LifeSite has learned that the regional spiritual directors of the Toronto Catholic Women's League wrote a letter September 15 to their fellow CWL spiritual directors about the CWL support of the March of Women 2000. With their letter they also sent a background paper on the issues involved, which was authored by Fr. Tom Lynch, Professor of Moral Theology at St. Augustine's Seminary.

The letter of the spiritual directors says, "we should take whatever steps are necessary in the brief time remaining before the March of Women petition is presented to Parliament and the UN (Oct 15-17) to make our disagreement known." The letter calls for "a revision of the process by which public stands are taken for the league and its spokespersons." It also calls for a conciliation process, clarification on the role of the CWL, review of the position of spiritual directors, and "renewed teaching as to these complex moral issues."

Fr. Lynch's paper notes that central to the list of demands of the World March of Women are "the call for completely open access to abortion and the extension of homosexual privileges." The paper outlines the principles of moral teaching which participation in the March contravenes.
