MOST CANADIAN PREGNANT TEENS ABORT THEIR CHILDREN

All-Time-Low Teen Birth Rate Figures Tainted With Blood

OTTAWA, Oct 24 (LSN.ca) - Statistics Canada released a report on Teenage Pregnancy Friday which noted that for the first time, statistics are showing that Canadian pregnant teens aged 15-19 aborted most of their babies. The report says that "in 1997, for the first time, the percentage of teenage pregnancies ending in abortion (50.3%) surpassed that of live births (46.8%). The remaining 2.9% of pregnancies ended in a miscarriage or stillbirth." Thus the news that the number of births and the birth rate of teens reached an "at all-time low" in 1997 is severely tainted - more than half of the children conceived by teens were killed by abortion.

Trends at the national level were driven by patterns in the three most populous provinces - Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia - where the majority of teenage pregnancies were aborted in 1997. Among the provinces and territories, 1997 abortion rates were highest in Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Ontario, and lowest in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

PRO-LIFE ACTIVIST MARY WAGNER ARRESTED - AS INNOCENT BYSTANDER

VANCOUVER, Oct 24 (LSN.ca) - Pro-life heroine Mary Wagner was part of a crowd of onlookers today watching three pro-lifers engaged in civil disobedience at Vancouver's Everywoman's abortuary. John Hof of Campaign Life Coalition BC told LifeSite that police arrested the three pro-lifers involved in the demonstration but also approached Mary Wagner, the BC young person who was jailed earlier for praying and handing out roses within the abortuary's "bubble zone".

Ms. Wagner was asked if she was allowed to be there since she is on probation from her last arrest. She answered truthfully that she was within her rights because she did not sign any conditions for her release. Nevertheless, 20 minutes later the police returned and arrested the young woman.

The demonstration was put on by a group calling themselves "Just Neighbours." The group, consisting of Jen Ziemann, Darren Holubowich and Tim Vincent, used black paint to cover over a flower mural at the abortion facility "to tell the truth that has been hidden by it's superficial beauty." On the walls they wrote "WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE?", a familiar anti-war song, calling to mind that in both war and abortion society has "legitimized the use of lethal force to serve our own ends." The message the group sought to convey was: "Behind these walls dwell death, the death of the innocent unborn, the death of sacred bonds between mother and child, the death of hope, the death of conscience."

JAKKI JEFFS RESPONDS TO CWL OVER MARCH OF WOMEN DISCIPLINE

GUELPH, ON, Oct 24 (LSN.ca) - Catholic Women's League (CWL) life member Jakki Jeffs responded to the CWL president's letter threatening to revoke her Life Member status for speaking out against CWL support of the World March of Women.

Mrs. Jeffs challenged the CWL's claim that her signature on the Life Membership Application ... "affirmed implicit support and service to national council with loyalty to the League as called for in the League Promise.....". She notes "when I gave my promise to '... cooperate with League officers in all programs under their direction ...' I did so believing that my cooperation would never contradict my Faith ... However, by supporting the World March of Women 2000, I believe that the national executive has violated the objects of The Catholic Women's League of Canada and offended the teachings of our Roman Catholic Faith."

Responding to the charge that she spoke out publicly and frequently on the issue, Jeffs responds she has done so "because it has been made clear to me by the numerous communications I have received from CWL representatives and Spiritual Advisors at Parish, Regional, Diocesan and Provincial levels across Canada that they have been crying out to be heard by the national president, the national executive and the national council. Their claims are that they have not been heard or that their concerns have been rejected and - as a result - they feel betrayed by their duly elected national officers, a feeling that I share."

GORE'S VP PICK LIEBERMAN EXCOMMUNICATED BY JEWISH COURT

NEW YORK, Oct 24 (LSN.ca) - An Orthodox Jewish rabbinical court in New York has formally sanctioned Vice Presidential hopeful Senator Joseph Lieberman. According to the Conservative News Service, the New York Torah Court stated that Lieberman caused "grave scandal" for the Jewish religion "by the fact that, while claiming to be an observant Jew, [he] has been misrepresenting and falsifying to the American people the teachings of the Torah against partial birth infanticide, against special privileges and preferential treatment for flaunting homosexuals, and against religious intermarriage of Jews."

Rabbi Joseph Friedman, a spokesman and participant in the rabbinical court, said in a statement that Lieberman "violated our sacred Torah by his Senate votes upholding partial birth infanticide and legitimizing homosexuality, which abnormal and unhealthy behavior the Torah strongly condemns as sinful and immoral."

UNICEF AWARDS POPULATION CONTROLLER TED TURNER

Trick or Treaters Should Not Support UNICEF's Abortion Mandate

NEW YORK, Oct 24 (LSN.ca) - UNICEF has once again shown its pro-abortion colours by giving an award to population control fanatic Ted Turner. In New York Monday, Turner was awarded the Trick or Treat Partner Award from the UNICEF at a dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Trick or Treat for UNICEF campaign.

A National Catholic Register (NCR) article reported in Zenit News demonstrates that support for UNICEF means funding abortion, contraception and sterilization programs in the Third World. The Oct. 22 edition of the US Catholic paper quotes Archbishop Fernando Saenz Lacalle of San Salvador condemning a 170-page sex-education booklet designed by UNICEF and El Salvador's Ministries of Health and Education for training adolescents on sexuality issues including contraception, homosexuality and abortion.

John Klink, adviser to the Holy See mission to the United Nations, reminded NCR readers that "The Holy See used to give a symbolic contribution of $2,000 each year to UNICEF. ... It was a sort of imprimatur that other Catholic individuals and organizations could give to the organization in good faith." When UNICEF began to violate Catholic teaching on life and family issues the Vatican tried first to earmark funds for licit activities. But after UNICEF became more brazen in its abortion promotion the Vatican withdrew funding altogether.

GAG LAW PLACED ON HOLD FOR ELECTION

Federal government is launching immediate appeal

CALGARY, Oct 24 (LSN.ca) - The "Gag Law" which set federal spending limits on third-party advertising during election campaigns has been placed on temporary hold by an Alberta judge after a Charter challenge by the National Citizens' Coalition.

The new law was of concern to pro-life groups since it would have limited third-party expenditures on advocacy advertising nationally and in any given constituency during the course of a campaign and would have required bureaucratic reporting of spending and lists of donors who gave over a certain amount. One requirement remains in effect. Citizens or groups who want to spend more than $500 on advertising in the run-up to the Nov. 27 vote must still register with Elections Canada.

Unlike political parties, Canadian third party advocacy groups are not permitted to issue tax receipts. Their election funds are generally vastly less than the massive funds available to the political parties because of the huge tax credits given for political donations. As well, advocacy groups tend to be generally non-partisan, focusing mostly on highlighting their issues to all candidates and the voters and supporting candidates in any party who agree with them.

The federal government is scrambling to immediately appeal the Alberta decision in order to re-instate the restrictions for this election and maintain the political parties' monopoly election activities.
