VANVOUVER, Apr 30, 2001 (LSN.ca) – On the heels of the scandal of its $130,000+ donation to the pro-abortion World March of Women, the Canadian Organization for Development and Peace has again been caught donating large sums of money to a pro-abortion event. The BC Catholic reported April 23: “The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) has budgeted $140,000 for the parallel summit and other anti-globalization efforts.” The article entitled “Churches call for more neighbourly economy” was referring to the CCODP support of the second “People’s Summit of the Americas organized by the Hemispheric Social Alliance.”

However, an April 14 Toronto Star article on the People’s Summit noted that the Summit “organizers” of the “People’s Summit” refused “to allow Monsignor Paul Couture, archbishop of Quebec, to speak at the Tuesday rally.” The Star article entitled, “Snub to Catholic church sparks a row” noted that “Marcella Escribano, spokesperson for the organization said Couture would not be welcome as a keynote speaker at the opening because of the Catholic church’s position on such issues as abortion and religious schooling.”
