CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE PROMOTING ANTI-VATICAN GROUP
OTTAWA, Feb 7, 2001 (LSN.ca) - The most recent edition of The Canadian League, the newsletter of the Catholic Women's League (CWL), praises an organization that has supported the ousting of the Vatican from the United Nations as a permanent observer. The League article written by Joan Hastie - the representative of the Catholic Women's League to the controversial March of Women 2000 - praises the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada (WICC) as "working for social justice for all, and for women in particular." Hastie, who serves as the representative of the CWL to WICC, promotes WICC enterprises and provides CWL members with a lopsided opinion of the organization.
The Spring 2000 WICC newsletter contains an article by dissident 'Catholic' Joanna Manning (author of Is the Pope Catholic?), which encourages support for the Catholics For a Free Choice campaign which, according to WICC, "hopes to persuade the Secretary General of the UN to conduct a review of the Holy See's status as a voting member". "Anyone who would like more information or would like to sign the coalition's petition is welcome to call Joanna at (416) 599-1244," says the newsletter.
Last May the US Catholic Bishops denounced the pro-abortion group "Catholics for a Free Choice" saying they are guilty of "anti-Catholic bigotry" due to their attempt to oust the Holy See from the UN.
