CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE ACKNOWLEDGES DISASSOCIATION FROM WOMEN'S MARCH
OTTAWA, Feb 16, 2001 (LSN.ca) - The Catholic Women's League of Canada has commented once again on the World March of Women. A statement from the CWL National President Vivian Bosch, issued Feb 14 reads, "It has come to our attention that the international organizing committee is calling on national organizing committees to stage protests in reaction to the announcement that US President George W. Bush intends to reinstate a ban on US foreign aid to programs that promote abortion." The letter says that "The March ended for us with the rally October 15, 2000 on Parliament (sic) Hill."
In an encouraging statement the letter says, "We applaud the initiative President Bush has taken and will continue to put pressure on the Canadian Government to take similar stands that demonstrate respect for a life at all stages." However, the letter ends saying that "The Catholic Women's League of Canada will continue to be unwavering in its commitment to life issues and in no way support any initiatives calling for support of abortion rights." As the WMW did, and has continued to, support abortion, the last line of the letter contradicts the contents of the letter, which admit CWL support for the WMW.
Jakki Jeffs a pro-life leader and life member of the CWL who was threatened with removal of her status as a life member for daring to publicly criticize CWL support for the WMW, had only one comment on the recent developments. "We told you so!" Jeffs told LifeSite.
