STUDY DEMONSTRATES 'CATASTROPHIC' SIDE EFFECT OF FOETAL TISSUE TRANSPLANTS
NEW YORK, Mar 8, 2001 (LSN.ca) - A study released in today's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine shows that the experimental treatment for Parkinson's disease, which uses implants from the brain cells of aborted babies, has "disastrous side effects." The results have prompted researchers including Dr. Paul Greene, a neurologist at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, to back out of work in the area. "No more foetal transplants. We are absolutely and adamantly convinced that this should be considered for research only. And whether it should be researched in people is an open question," said Greene.
In 15 per cent of the patients who underwent an embryonic stem cell treatment, the cells began producing too much dopamine, causing patients to "chew constantly" and "writhe and twist, jerk their heads, fling their arms about." Greene remarked that the results are "absolutely devastating ... It was tragic, catastrophic. It's a real nightmare. And we can't selectively turn it off," he said.

BC PREMIER GETS PICKETED BY CAMPAIGN LIFE COALITION YOUTH
VANCOUVER, Mar 8, 2001 (LSN.ca) - The Vancouver constituency office of B.C. Premier Ujjal Dosanjh was picketed yesterday by about 15 young people from Campaign Life Coalition Youth. Also present was CLC B.C. president John Hof, who told LifeSite News that the effort was a response to Dosanjh's decision to make abortion an election issue.
"Mr. Dosanjh warned British Columbians about 'anti-choice' individuals who support restrictions on abortion, as if those who value human life are the degenerates of society," said Hof. "Our campaign will expose British Columbians to the 'choice' that Mr. Dosanjh supports. Mr. Dosanjh and his supporters will come face to face with abortion. Enough name calling. Enough rhetoric. It is time to show folks what an abortion choice really is."
The demonstration included the display of large, graphic signs depicting the horrific results of abortion. A number of reporters were on hand to cover the event, and the demonstration was news for some four hours on B.C.'s major radio station, CKNW. The station broadcast a quote from spokesperson Kaireen Piper, a 20-year-old student at the University of British Columbia, who said that Dosanjh "has put a moratorium on killing grizzly bears for the next three years; how about a three-year moratorium on killing unborn children?"
PLANNED PARENTHOOD LOSES FACE IN SETTLING LAWSUIT
WASHINGTON, DC, Mar 8, 2001 (LSN.ca) - Planned Parenthood clinics are losing more and more credibility with the public as an increasing number of successful lawsuits are laid against them. This week, STOPP International, an arm of the American Life League, reported that Planned Parenthood Mohawk-Hudson in New York paid a settlement in excess of $1 million to 24-year-old Lisa Joseph, whose breast cancer was misdiagnosed by Planned Parenthood nurse practitioner Ella Mary Wylie.
Wylie had told Joseph that the lump in her breast was not cancerous and that she was too young to have cancer. Two months later, she sought a second opinion elsewhere and learned that she had a cancerous lump. She had that removed; however, the cancer had by then found its way into her chest wall.
LifeSite News reported last week on the case of a 28-year-old woman in California, who was awarded $672,610 in a lawsuit against Planned Parenthood. The award stemmed from what has been called a "botched" first-trimester abortion in 1997. A baby missing two limbs was aborted from her several weeks after the first abortion. It is believed that she had twins, with the second baby being undetected by the abortionists on the first occasion.

A federal racketeering probe in Chicago alleges that a mafia don owns and operates a prominent local abortuary, and actively tries to bribe friendly politicians on the premises. Pro-life activists say the case, entitled People v. Anthony Centracchio, is only one example of the questionable activities at abortuaries in the area and possibly elsewhere.

The tragic consequences of the homosexual lifestyle are the focus of a program airing tonight on an American cable television network. "It's Not Gay" (http://www.itsnotgay.com), produced by the American Family Association, features former homosexuals sharing their real-life experiences, and the emotional pain, brokenness, and physical consequences, such as AIDS, that accompany that lifestyle. The program will air twice on the Inspiration Network (http://www.insp.com).
Catholic World News reports that CNN founder Ted Turner labelled Catholic employees of the cable news network as "Jesus freaks" on Ash Wednesday. Fox news channel's web site says that during a party for retiring anchor Bernard Shaw at the network's Washington bureau, Turner stunned staffers by noting ashes on the foreheads of Catholics and stating, "What are you, a bunch of Jesus freaks? You ought to be working for Fox."
