HEALTH CANADA ADMITS THERE'S NO EVIDENCE ABORTION IS 'MEDICALLY NECESSARY'
OTTAWA, Mar. 21, 2001 (LSN.ca) - Gary Breitkreuz, the Canadian Alliance MP who is scheduled to present his pro-life motion in parliament tomorrow, has received confirmation that the federal government has no evidence to support its claim that abortion is "medically necessary." Earlier this year Liberal Health Minister Alan Rock demanded that provinces fund all abortions, even in private abortuaries, claiming that abortion is "medically necessary."
Mr. Breitkreuz filed an Access to Information request to the Information Commissioner demanding any "documents, reports and correspondence in the department that provide evidence that abortions are 'medically necessary.'" An official reply to the information request reads, "I regret to inform you that after a thorough search of all likely record holdings, departmental officials have confirmed that they have no records relevant to your request."
