MAJOR US TV NETWORKS PLAN TO USE MORE NUDITY, FOUL LANGUAGE AND PROFANITY
NEW YORK, September 5, 2001 (LSN.ca) - The three major US television networks, ABC, CBS and NBC have told the New York Times that they plan to break broadcast taboos this television season - beginning this month - and allow use of extremely foul language and profanity.
Aaron Sorkin, the executive producer of "The West Wing" on NBC, told the Times that he wants a character to curse in a way that uses the Lord's name in vain. ABC also boasted to the Times of upcoming foul language. The Times reports "CBS executives say that writers are submitting scripts for programs that include every crude word imaginable" and will air programs featuring graphic sex scenes.
Newsmax.com, a conservative news agency, has posted an alert and has called on concerned readers to voice their concerns to the Federal Communications Commission.
