AUSTRALIAN MPS DECEIVED ON EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS BY VIDEO FRAUD
Tissue From Aborted Babies, Not Embryonic Stem Cells From Fertilized Eggs
CANBERRA, August 27, 2002 (LSN.ca) - Members of Australia's Parliament were shown a video that falsely led them to believe an embryonic stem cell breakthrough healed an injured rat's legs. The cure was instead caused by the injection of germ cells harvested from aborted fetuses.
It is not the first time video fraud has been used to manipulate legislators. Last year, LifeSite reported that U.S. lawmakers, including officials surrounding President Bush, were targeted with a video of a rat-healing based on tissue from aborted fetuses. The crucial source of cells was withheld, leaving the impression that embryonic stem cells were used.
This week Christopher Pyne, an MP from South Australia, blew the whistle on Prof. Alan Trounson's video fraud. "Many people were sucked in by the video," said Pyne, "This has been proven to be false." Pyne added: "The bottom line is adult stem cells are as good as, if not better than, embryonic stem cells. That's a fact and I don't need a rat to prove it. There are people who are walking around today who've benefited from adult stem cells."
