LANSING, Michigan, December 6, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Governor-Elect Jennifer Granholm, the pro-abortion feminist, "Catholic" Democrat who won last month's election, is planning an interfaith prayer service to be held at a Catholic church before her inauguration as governor on the morning of January 1.

Pro-lifers are distressed that the church would allow her to use their premises as a platform. A Plymouth-based group called the Church and Truth Project is now urging members to call St. Mary's Cathedral in Lansing, where Granholm has booked the service, and will be holding a prayer vigil outside the church this Sunday. The Church and Truth Project also urged members to call Detroit Cardinal Adam Maida and ask that he not participate in the service.

Former Governor John Engler, a Catholic, had Masses held for each of his three inaugurations -- but this did not draw protest because he is a pro-life Catholic in practice and well as in name.
