SASKATCHEWAN PRO-LIFERS FACE CHARGES FOR GRAPHIC ABORTION SIGNS
Pro-Life Activist Says Police are Discriminating Against Pro-Lifers
REGINA, February 20, 2002 (LSN.ca) - A group of pro-lifers protesting abortions outside the Regina General Hospital were charged by police with disrupting traffic Monday. Bill Whatcott, one of the members of the Christian Truth Activists disputed the charges saying "we weren't on the road, we were on the sidewalk."
The Regina Leader Post reports that police confiscated six signs which will be withheld as evidence until the court date April 15. Whatcott, said the group plans to continue protesting outside the hospital despite the charges since abortions are performed there.
Whatcott accused the police of showing bias since they did not take action after a 65-year-old member of the group was assaulted earlier this month. Whatcott said the elderly man was attacked by a woman who got out of her car and kicked and punched the man before driving off. While photos and a licence plate number were turned in to police, they took no action according to Whatcott.
