MCARTHUR FOUNDATION - FUNDING ALL THE WRONG CAUSES
CHICAGO, November 13, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A list of recipients of grants from the McArthur Foundation includes most of the enemies of life, faith and family that exist on the international level, as well as those in specific countries which the foundation targets. Apart from funding 'Catholics for a Free Choice' and International Planned Parenthood, the foundation targets funds towards abortion and population-control-promoting groups in Brazil, India, Mexico and Nigeria.
The McArthur Foundation also directs its funds to the promotion of the most radical groups working to mold the International Criminal Court into a juggernaut against advocates of life and family. The United Nation's Women's Caucus for Gender Justice in New York has received $100,000 "in support of activities promoting a gender-sensitive perspective in the International Criminal Court." In addition, the one-world-government pushing World Federalist Movement received $750,000. Another $750,000 was given to the Coalition for an International Criminal Court.
The following is a list of some of the most notorious abortion-pushing 2002 McArthur grant recipients (in U.S. dollars):
- Catholics for a Free Choice, Washington, D.C. $600,000 (over three years).
- International Planned Parenthood Federation, London, United Kingdom $250,000 (over 18 months).
- Population Action International, Washington, D.C. $200,000 to document and disseminate a study on the effect of the United States's "global gag rule" (over two years).
- Population Council, New York, New York $775,000 (over three years).
- United Nations Population Fund, New York, New York $262,500
An indication of the direction of the granting policy can be gleaned from one of the foundation's board members - Lloyd Axworthy - the former Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister. Axworthy, was known to the pro-life movement as a staunch abortion supporter and heavily pushed for the International Criminal Court.
The Foundation was created in 1978 by John D. MacArthur (1897-1978), who developed and owned Bankers Life and Casualty Company and other businesses. One of the nation's ten largest foundations, MacArthur today has assets of $4.2 billion and makes grants totaling approximately $227 million annually.
