NEPALI KING FIRES ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS A WEEK AFTER LEGALIZING ABORTION

KATMANDU, Nepal, October 11, 2002 (LSN.ca) - A week after signing a law to legalize abortion in his country, Nepal's King Gyanendra fired the elected government, dismissed the prime minister and took over executive power, indefinitely postponing parliamentary elections.
The legalization of abortion in the Himalayan nation went into effect September 26 after years of United Nations pressure. It legalized abortion on demand up the twelfth week of pregnancy and allowed it anytime for disabled unborn children or when the mother's health is endangered
Using the double-speak typical of his Western pro-abortion counterparts, the King proclaimed his commitment to democracy after firing the elected officials. "We would like to assure our countrymen that democratic ideals will always continue to guide us," King Gyanendra said after dumping the legislature.
