SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 5, 2002 (LSN.ca) – Catholic Bishops from 25 Latin American countries ended a three day conference yesterday with a final document blasting the United Nations and groups such as the European Union for pressuring governments to legislate in favour of abortion, homosexuality and divorce.  “Latin American governments have been pressured to legislate against Christian family unity by strong groups like the United Nations and the European Union who want to impose their experiences here,” said Monsignor Carlos Aguiar of Mexico, president of the Catholic council for Latin America.

AP reports that the specifics of the declaration were not released but will be disclosed by the Vatican at an unspecified future date.  See the AP coverage on CNN at:  https://www.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/americas/09/04/dominican.bishops.ap/index.html
