UNICEF LOOKING FOR HALOWEEN DONATIONS BUT CONTINUES ANTI-LIFE PROJECTS

Two-Faced Organization Attempting to Conceal Abortion Support

UNITED NATIONS, September 19, 2002 (LSN.ca) - Ever since the Vatican halted its symbolic donation to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in 1996 due to the organization's support for abortion and abortifacient contraception (http://www.lifesite.net/waronfamily/unicef/vatican1196.html ), UNICEF has attempted to deceitfully convince potential donors that it does not promote abortion. As UNICEF delegates appear at school boards and churches seeking help with Halloween fundraising, their deceptive rhetoric is uncovered by the facts which show that their abortion support has not abated but increased.

The organization's website expounds the lie that "UNICEF does not advocate any particular method of family planning. As a matter of practice UNICEF does not provide contraceptive supplies. It has never provided support for abortion and it continues to be the long-standing UNICEF policy not to support it. Thus UNICEF does not make available its resources for abortion or any method of contraception in any country." However, other documents on the same website and the official UN website demonstrate the falsehood of the statement.

In one of many examples, the UN website lists a UNICEF project in Lebanon which ran from 1997-2001 which was billed a "Maternal and Child Health Project." UNICEF shelled out $130,000 (US) for the project which aimed "to promote access by all couples to information and services to prevent pregnancies that are too early, too closely spaced, too late or too many." ( http://www.un.org.lb/gender/unicef.htm )

Were one to attempt to argue that this UNICEF project aim could be satisfied without resorting to contraception by education in abstinence, the UNICEF Executive Director herself would show that is a consideration for UNICEF. Speaking on programmes to combat HIV/AIDS Carol Bellamy says, "young people have sex, something the world must acknowledge as a pre-condition to mounting effective prevention programmes." ( http://www.unicef.ca/eng/travail/news/070202.html ) Bellamy has a long history of advocating abortion as a New York state Senator prior to taking on her UN post.

At the UN children's summit in May a UNICEF-funded Spanish-language manual targeting Latin American teens was handed out. It clearly identified the group's pro-abortion agenda. "Reproductive health includes the following components: Counseling on sexuality, pregnancy, methods of contraception, abortion, infertility, infections and diseases," said the manual. The manual also provided youths with depraved sex advice listing: "Situations in which you can obtain sexual pleasure: 1. Masturbation. 2. Sexual relations with a partner - whether heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual. 3. A sexual response that is directed toward inanimate objects, animals, minors, non-consenting persons." ( http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2002/may/02051306.html )

In another recent incident, UNICEF was caught supporting a South African organization that encourages children to engage in sexual and homosexual behavior and to have abortions, without their parents' knowledge or consent. The organization, called loveLife (sic), says on its website that UNICEF provides "major funding" for its programs. (http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2002/jan/02011404.html )
