PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION BAN ACT EXPECTED TO REACH U.S. HOUSE IN MAY

WASHINGTON, April 10, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The National Right to Life
Committee is gearing up for the last fight on the partial-birth abortion issue. As the U.S. Congress will be on Spring recess from April 11-28, the partial birth abortion legislation will not be taken up in the House before early May.
On March 13, the U.S. Senate approved the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act (S. 3). On March 26, the House Judiciary Committee approved its version of the ban (H.R. 760).
NRLC has urged pro-lifers to prepare for the battle by educating the public on the issue. NRLC warns that pro-abortion legislators will be introducing 'phony bans" to hamper the effort. Moreover, major media are repeating discredited myths about the procedure, propagating claims that partial-birth abortions are performed mostly or only in cases in which the mother's life or physical health are in dire jeopardy, or the baby has profound disorders. In reality, even prominent pro-abortion advocates have conceded that the method is used thousands of times annually and that the vast majority of partial-birth abortions are performed on healthy babies of healthy mothers.
