CLEVELAND, February 6, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Chardon High School principal Doug DeLong has backed down from punishing a junior who wore a pro-life sweatshirt. He has rescinded the punishment given to Bill Noyes, 17, who received a Saturday detention for refusing to take off a sweatshirt that said "Abortion Is Homicide."

"I'm glad I stood up for my rights," said Noyes. "This was about the freedom to express an opinion." He has been told he is free to wear the sweatshirt at school, but agreed to do so only when there is some pro-life event being celebrated in the country. Attorneys with Rock For Life, a Virginia-based pro-life organization, were considering a legal intervention that may have influenced the principal's decision.
