SCIENTISTS ATTEMPT TO REVIVE EMBRYO STEM CELL RESEARCH

WASHINGTON, February 10, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - U.S. researchers claim to have developed a method to ensure embryonic stem cells grow into tissue desired by scientists rather than developing into tumors as they have in previous experiments. Dr. Thomas Zwaka and James Thomson say they have been able to delete a gene from the embryonic stem cells and thus claim they are able to direct them to become brain tissues.

Embryonic stem cell research has had major setbacks since experimentation has shown that the stem cells cause tumors. A study on rats that had proponents of embryonic stem cell research raving about the wonders of the unethical science, contained startling information on the harm of such research. While headlines trumpeted "Stem Cells May Treat Parkinson's", buried in the story is the fact that the researchers found that more than one in four of the animals used in the study developed tumors after the injection of embryonic stem cells.
