400,000 ABORTIONS PER YEAR IN PHILIPPINES?
MANILA, January 7, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A study by the University of the Philippines Population Institute suggests that 400,000 children "are killed in the Philippines every year before they are born," in the words of Gulf News, based in the United Arab Emirates.
Philippines Senate majority leader Loren Legarda said that the figures should serve as a wake-up call. "If this estimate on abortion is accurate," she said, "then countless lives of children yet to be born are being silently extinguished with the murderers getting away with their dastardly crimes." She said the government must refocus the school curricula "so that positive values will be given more emphasis in the classroom."
The Philippines has been heavily targeted for years by international de-population agencies. The mostly religious country continues to treasure children and natural family life. A common strategy by abortion advocates has been to greatly exaggerate the number of illegal abortions in a country to build a case that there is a strong demand for the "service". Some observers therefore suggest the Population Institute study should be critically examined rather than just accepting its credibility.
