LIBERAL LEADERERSHIP CANDIDATE COPPS RUNS ON HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE TICKET

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

OTTAWA, January 15, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Former Deputy Prime Minister and current Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps has announced her bid to run for the leadership of the Liberal Party. In releasing her intentions she noted that she would be pushing legal recognition of homosexual 'marriage'.

The National Post reports that "Ms. Copps also promises to use 'the pulpit of elected office to push forward full equality for all our citizens,' in particular, legal recognition of gay marriages."

Campaign Life Catholic is urging Catholics to contact Copps' bishop Anthony Tonnos to ask him to admonish her. Copps, a stridently pro-abortion politician who considers herself Catholic has used the Knights of Columbus hall in her riding for her election night headquarters.

In related news, all six of the candidates for the leadership of the federal New Democratic Party have come out as pro-abortion. Two of them Joe Comartin and Pierre Ducasse prefaced the declaration of their support for abortion by noting they are Catholic.

Hilary White of Campaign Life Catholic told LifeSite "It is becoming a sick joke that politicians regularly proclaim to be Catholic while at the same time boasting of their views opposed by the faith". "In these times of looming scandal," she said, "the Church can no longer afford the luxury of compromise. It is time for the bishops to say 'enough',"

WASHINGTON, January 15, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - U.S. President George W. Bush issued a proclamation yesterday declaring Sunday, January 19, 2003, as National Sanctity of Human Life Day. In his proclamation, the President said, "Every child is a priority and a blessing, and I believe that all should be welcomed in life and protected by law."

"My Administration has championed compassionate alternatives to abortion, such as helping women in crisis through maternity group homes, encouraging adoption, promoting abstinence education, and passing laws requiring parental notification and waiting periods for minors," said the President. He further pleged that "Through ethical policies and the compassion of Americans, we will continue to build a culture that respects life."

VATICAN RULES 'SEX-CHANGE' OPERATION NOT VALID

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

VATICAN, January 15, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Catholic News Service reports that the Vatican's Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith sent out a confidential document in 2000 which authoritatively concluded that "sex-change" operations are invalid - they do not change a person's sex. Thus bishops are never to alter the sex listed in baptismal records and those who have undergone "sex-change" operations are not eligible to marry, be ordained to the priesthood or enter religious life.

While sent to papal nuncios in 2000, the document was virtually unheard of even by bishops and was thus re-issued to the presidents of bishops' conferences in 2002.

EUROPEAN UNION DUMPS $81 MILLION ON ABORTION ORGANIZATION

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

STRASBOURG, January 15, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Pro-life Member of European Parliament, Dana Rosemary Scallon, reported today that the European Union has confirmed it diverted over $81 million (CAD) from the EU fisheries budget to the militant international abortion group Marie Stopes International (MSI). Mr Struan Stevenson, chairman of the EU fisheries committee expressed deep concern over the move after being alerted to it by Scallon.

Dana said diverting funding to MSI which performs and promotes abortion worldwide was "totally unacceptable." She concluded, "At a time when our fishermen are facing severe economic hardship and suffering financial loss, there are serious questions to be answered."

Marie Stopes was part of the failed "See Change" coalition that attempted to have the Vatican shut out of the UN.

PHILIPPINE HEALTH WORKERS FIND INTERESTING USES FOR DUMPED CONTRACEPTIVES

MANILLA, January 15, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Contraceptives which are foisted on the Philippines in astronomical quantities by population-control minded nations are being used creatively by rural health care workers. The Philippine Daily Inquirer newspaper quotes Health Secretary Manuel Dayrit as admitting rural health centers are oversupplied with artificial birth control pills and condoms.

"Our supply (of contraceptives) is so high that in provinces people running health centres use the pills to grow orchids and (use) condoms for party balloons," he said.

IDAHO PRO-CHOICE VANDALISM NOT TREATED AS HATE CRIME

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

BOISE, Idaho, January 15, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A pro-life display of 3,000 small white crosses, placed in a churchyard to symbolize unborn lives eliminated by abortion, has been vandalized twice in two days.

On Saturday, members of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Boise put up the crosses, only to show up for church early Sunday morning to find them knocked over. Parishioners put the crosses back up, but found them destroyed again early Monday morning by what police call a "large group" of vandals.

Two suspects, aged 18 and 20, have been charged in the first incident. Although police said in a press release that one of the suspects described himself as "politically motivated ... and that the two men disagreed with the pro-life statement communicated by the cross display," an Idaho TV station reported that "authorities say this is not being investigated as a hate crime."

DEMOCRATS SHOW THEY ARE THE 'PARTY OF ABORTION'

All six potential candidates to attend pro-abortion fundraiser celebrating Roe v.Wade

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

WASHINGTON, January 15, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a move that solidifies the reputation of the U.S. Democratic Party as the Party of Abortion, all six potential Democratic presidential candidates will attend a pro-abortion fundraising dinner to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Next Tuesday's event will be hosted by Naral Pro-Choice America, which recently changed its name from the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL). Democrats attending are Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut; and the Rev. Al Sharpton of New York. Ex-Vermont Governor Howard Dean is also likely to attend.

"It is entirely possible that choice [sic] will play a very significant role in this election -- perhaps the biggest in presidential history," said Jim Jordan, Sen. Kerry's campaign manager. "I think there is a growing awareness among women, particularly among younger women, that the right to choose is in real jeopardy."

As usual, the abortion advocates strategically refuse to complete the slogan which would more explicitly emphasize that they are advocating "the right to choose" to kill a living human beings in his/her mother's womb.

PRO-LIFERS FORCE HOSPITAL TO WITHDRAW ABORTION OPENING

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

CLARKSBURG, W. Va., January 15, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The United Hospital Center board has been forced by public outcry to back down on a bylaw amendment to clear the way for medically unjustified abortions.

"Our policy will remain the same. We will not perform abortions, even in the very rare case where a lethal fetal abnormality exists," said a disappointed UHC President Bruce Carter. "We respect the community's values on this issue from a philosophical and religious standpoint, and the board has voted accordingly."

Previously, on Dec. 17, the board voted 8 to 7 to pave the way for abortion on demand. To effect the change, they began by slyly revising the bylaw to allow abortion in cases of "rare lethal fetal abnormality."
