VATICAN RULES 'SEX-CHANGE' OPERATION NOT VALID

VATICAN, January 15, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Catholic News Service reports that the Vatican's Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith sent out a confidential document in 2000 which authoritatively concluded that "sex-change" operations are invalid - they do not change a person's sex. Thus bishops are never to alter the sex listed in baptismal records and those who have undergone "sex-change" operations are not eligible to marry, be ordained to the priesthood or enter religious life.

While sent to papal nuncios in 2000, the document was virtually unheard of even by bishops and was thus re-issued to the presidents of bishops' conferences in 2002.
