WINNIPEG, January 22, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Dr. Henry Morgentaler is offering discount abortions in a bid to increase political pressure on the Manitoba government, which refuses to use public healthcare dollars to fund his private clinic fees over and above his doctor's abortion fee. The government also refuses to buy out the clinic using tax dollars. Starting on February 3, Morgentaler says he will cut the profitable surcharge at his Winnipeg outlet to $250 per abortion from the regular $530 to $580 (There is
a sliding price scale depending on the size of the baby).

Health Minister Dave Chomiak said there are no plans to buy Morgentaler out or to start picking up the surcharge, because Winnipeg's hospitals already provide enough access. He called the abortionist's latest pitch "nothing new. This is the sixth, or seventh or eighth time Dr. Morgentaler has called on us to take over his clinic."
