WASHINGTON, January 22, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - All six declared Democratic presidential hopefuls last night marked the 30th anniversary of Roe v. Wade by pledging allegiance to abortion at a gala dinner - each promising to outdo the others in preventing any and all restrictions on abortion.

Each candidate took his turn addressing a crowd of 1,300 at the NARAL Pro-Choice America dinner. Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri said, "There is nothing moral in strong-arming a personal belief, and there is nothing moral to a presidency that imposes personal morality through acts of government power." Sen. John Edwards (North Carolina) said, "The right to choose is an essential ingredient to realize the full equality of America." Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean and Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts both vowed to oppose any restrictions on abortion. Rev. Al Sharpton, a black demagogue, "declared his support in a fiery speech that drew the loudest applause from the audience," according to a Newsday report. Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, who was Al Gore's vice-presidential running mate in 2000, added perversely, "I am pro-values, pro-faith, pro-family and pro-choice."

Naral Pro-Choice America, which recently changed its name from the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, says the movement's strategy in the 2004 campaign to replace George W. Bush with a pro-abortion president should be to emphasize "choice" as if it were a cornerstone of American liberty.
