MANILA, Philippines, January 27, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Cardinal Alfonzo Lopez Trujillo, the official representative for Pope John Paul II, closed the Fourth World Meeting of Families Sunday with a Mass for nearly one million. The Cardinal urged the faithful to fight abortion "with all your might".

"Do not convert mothers' wombs, which are fountains of life, into tombs," said the cardinal. "Laws all over the world should respect the gift of life and not conspire at death, in the cruelty and shame of procured abortion." Turning his attention to embryonic stem cell research and its attendant evils of IVF and cloning he said, "Seduced by science and technology, many presume that they are arbiters of life, in all kinds of dangerous manipulation that can even become nightmares to humanity."

The Pope addressed the massive crowd via satellite Saturday with an encouraging message for married spouses.
