ALS Society Of Canada Added To Groups Supporting Embryonic Stem Cell Research
OTTAWA, June 3, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - LifeSite has discovered that another popular Canadian charity has chosen to support anti-life embryonic stem cell research. The ALS Society of Canada which has for 25 years been funding leading research to find therapeutic approaches and a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a rapidly progressive fatal neuromuscular disease, has threatened its donations by sponsoring the controversial research.
An ALS Society of Canada press release on stem cell research issued on May 9 last year notes that the group will "endorse and encourage research using embryonic and adult stem cells into the cause, treatment and prevention of ALS."
Other groups which LifeSite has reported as supporting embryonic stem cell research include: The Alzheimer Society of Canada, The Canadian Cancer Society, Parkinson Society of Canada, Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC), the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, and The Arthritis Society.
