Names Of Members Of Justice Committee Voting On Homosexual Marriage
MP O'Brien says vote was orchestrated and McKay called it "bizarre"
OTTAWA, June 13, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Additional information on yesterday's federal justice committee vote in favour of the Ontario same-sex marriage decision was reported in today's National Post.
The Post reported that the two Liberal MPs who were suddenly called to yesterday's meeting and voted to not appeal the Ontario decision, would not reveal who sent them. The Post also reported that Paul Macklin, one of the two MPs who left the meeting, is parliamentary secretary to Justice Minister Martin Cauchon, but was known for months to have been waffling on the issue of gay marriage. Mr. Macklin, reports the Post, "could not be reached for comment on why he vanished from the committee meeting before the vote".
Liberal MP Pat O'Brien was also reported as speculating that the 9-8 vote was orchestrated and John McKay described the turn of events as "bizarre".
