MANILA, March 11, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Health Secretary Manuel Dayrit has proposed a ban on the birth control method known as the intra-uterine device (IUD). Dayrit noted that the IUD violated the pro-life law in the country since it could cause early abortions rather than acting as a contraceptive.

The move is similar to the removal of the abortifacient morning after pill after it was demonstrated that it acted as abortifacient rather than only a contraceptive. Pro-abortion advocates were outraged at the move to withdraw the morning after pill and are hopping made with Dayrit's suggestion on the IUD. They are demanding his resignation.
