OTTAWA, March 19, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Homosexual activist MP Svend Robinson's private members Bill C-250, which would see "sexual orientation" added to Canadian hate crimes legislation, is due to be out of the committee stage no later than May 15. LifeSite confirmed today that the bill remains in committee and the Justice committee could, anytime before May 15, report back to the House of Commons with recommendations.

The committee could return the bill to the House for Third Reading with or without amendments or it could recommend that the House not proceed with the legislation. If no action is taken by May 15, the bill will receive Third Reading automatically according to procedural rules.

LifeSite has learned that all four Canadian Alliance committee members are opposed to the bill. The Alliance, which is the Official Opposition, has learned from legal experts that if enacted into law, the bill will substantially interfere with the right of religious and educational leaders to communicate essential matters of faith.

Pro-family leaders are strongly urging concerned Canadians to contact the Liberal and PC committee members.

Committee members to contact include:
Mr. Irwin Cotler

Mr. John Maloney

Mr. John McKay

Mr. Derek Lee

Mr. Paul Harold Macklin

Ms. Marlene Jennings

Mr. Pat O'Brien

Mr. Joe Peschisolido

Mr. Peter MacKay

The Honourable Andy Scott
